Hi
I'm buying a car for my son. On the insurance quotes I've had, I've put down that he will be the owner and the main driver. What does the 'owner' bit mean? Does the documentation have to be in his name or will he have to be the registered keeper - or both? I've not done this before so please be gentle with me. I'm also guessing that if he is 'the owner' the insurance is cheaper than if he isn't?
Thanks!

I don't think it makes a difference who the owner is, some insurers insist that the insured lives at the same address/is family member as the keeper (eg we have a car insured in my name but my wife is the registered keeper and they were OK with that).

It may be cheaper to insure it in your sons name if you are a named driver.

Owner is the person who legally owns the car (not always formally documented)
Keeper is the person who is responsible for it on a day to day basis (named on the V5)
Main driver is the person who drives it most (named on the insurance cert)

They can all be different people.
