But with the female driver of the Range Rover complaining of back and neck pain, firefighters from Skelmanthorpe and Huddersfield were forced to cut the roof off the luxury vehicle, despite it having just a smashed headlight.

Skelmanthorpe Fire Station crew commander Elliott Webster said the victim had been reluctant to have her 400 mile, 63 plate car chopped up following the smash at the junction of the A629 Penistone Road and A635 Barnsley Road at 8am.

But he said it was necessary to guarantee her injuries weren’t made worse when removing her from the vehicle.

And he said cutting the roof off such a robust car presented them with a number of extra problems.

“With a car like this there’s a number of extra difficulties regarding the airbags and the electrics,” he said.

“We couldn’t get the electrics on to move her electric seat back.

“And we have to be aware of airbags potentially going off.

“It’s also difficult because of how strong Range Rovers are and how heavy the roof is.

Overkill? Hard to know, I'd be gutted to wait 6 months for the car, then 3 days later go to the back of the list again, but I'd rather be able to walk for the rest of my life

She'll have been thinking of a whiplash claim, nothing else.

Hardly just a "smashed headlight".
That's had some impact.

Non story.

I don't see anyone in the 107 so maybe they jumped out.

Overkill? Too right. IMHO.

Interesting insurance claim.

To be fair, looking at the RR it doesn't look too bad...especially with the NSF wheel looking to be in the correct location...then you look at what it hit and it did have a reasonable impact...

Being cynical, I guess it's one way to make sure the car is written off - maybe she fked up on the spec and just realised it wink

In any collision if anyone in the motor complains of back or neck pain the roof is cut off. Standard fire service procedure regardless of impact severity.

I seen them do the same thing a couple of months ago near where I live, the only damage to the car was that it no roof, I doubt the occupant was injured , just hamming up the claim me thinks.

Agree, also why would anyone with the means to afford a brand new Range Rover be bothered about a couple of grand whiplash claim.

Never let anyone who has had an accident take a seat in your car while you wait for the Ambulance to arrive.

They will cut your roof off even if your car had nothing to do with the accident.

Just getting back-ended at 15mph will give you a hell of a whiplash shock initially; gutter seeing such a lovely car chopped! though!

If you have an accident then complain about back and neck pain whilst still sitting in the vehicle then the roof is coming off regardless.

Its only a car and I imagine the dealer will be pleased to come to an arrangement about a replacement as they are getting 2 sales instead of 1 now.

I remember the story someone posted up some time ago of a driver who witnessed a crash and let the shocked driver involved sit in the back of their car after the accident (they walked their on their own steam), only to have the roof of their perfectly intact car cut off as by the time the emergency services arrived the driver was indicating back/neck pain!
