None. If you love cars, you can be one. As a youngster I'd know specs of pretty much everything on the road. I LOVED cars but was years away from driving. Why would that exclude anyone?

What about boats? With twin V8s?
Planes?

Since TG said you'd have to own an Alfa, I've heard about this phrase a lot and I think it's nonsense.. but that's just me. I know plenty of people who cannot afford to own anything that'd "qualify" but go to every Festival of Speed or Breakfast club...

This. Some of the most enjoyable drives I've ever had were in a Nissan Sunny, so actual choice of car is somewhat irrelevant

All right cars you would own if you had the money that would qualify you as a petrol head!

I owned an Alfa in my "yoof" if one car of all the ones I've owned could of put me off them for life, this was it.
So this "only a petrol head if you own an Alfa" comment in my opinion is bks

My mate's little boy is 8 years old and a complete petrol head and he's never owned a car, so owning cars means nothing if you ask me

Is it Criss area who loves Ferrari could afford which ever one he wanted but prefers to appreciate them rather than owning. I respect that.

A sports car with compromises as in you'd have to be somewhat of a petrol head to appreciate them.

I would agree with 'none in particular' but maybe:

Classic Mini.
Something sporty (designed for 'real' driving pleasure).

Owning cars and dreaming of cars are two different things
Owning a car you find out all about it not just what it looks like or the states on top trumps !

Pretty much nails it, I recently sold my 1.4 sunny 1989, it was hilarious in the wet and fun in the dry, miss it

some of the answers belong in the 'Things that make you think knob' thread....

an Audi!!!..ffs

You dont 'qualify' to be a PH, its not about possesion or status or wealth or one brand over another
nor its it about vehicles that perform above a certain benckmark.

You dont need a license
you can be any sex,
any age
it doesnt matter.

Its a state of mind.

its the ability to look at a car n go "wooaaarrgg".
be that out loud if your 8 years whilst pointing out said car to your mates/mum or inside your own head if you are so inclined.
To be able to close your eyes and dream of driving to experiance a small ammout of joy.
You dont even have to know what car you want to be in, just that you want to drive.

This to me is a PH

NB. replace driving with riding at any point above, its all the same afliction.

I have spoken.

Apart from Dinky or Corgi toys as a kid, I think none.

Being a Petrolhead is just having a passion for cars, not what's in your garage.
