This week has seen my family's cars cursed.

Mom's car - an auto X-Trail - wouldn't allow the gear selector to release out of park. It's a Nissan "safety" feature for occasions when your brake lights don't work for whatever reason. Brake pedal switch failure, except there are two switches. Kerching - £150 fitted.

Youngest brother's Ford Focus snapped front suspension spring. Kerching - £100 fitted.

Mid-bro (I'm the oldest) 11-reg E-class wrecked prop-shaft. Kerching - £Warranty (useful if you know MB prices).

Wife's new E-class windscreen horizontal crack from one side to the other. Kerching - £75 excess.

My ML 3 separate cracks in the screen from 3 separate strikes (all this week). Kerching £75 - excess.

Mine again... this time when trying to replace the tyres the tyre fitters sheered the locking wheelnut key. Kerching - £Dunno yet but suspect ~£35.

Nothing more profound to say other than to confess I'm feeling victimised by the gods, fate, karma, etc...

Oh, and I have a NIP - my first in years - which followed only a week after Mom's first fine ever. She was relieved of £100 for the privilege of 3 points added to her licence. I suspect I'll have something similar now that I've sent back my declaration.

350CDI - leaden right foot and it does push out a little over 450lbft but still shouldn't have happened, hence the warranty.

Wife's E has the same engine and to drive, it's quite unnerving. I'm used to a 420bhp Cerbera and 250bhp Caterhams but their speed is accompanied by some real noise. These Mercs have a very quiet growl not representative of the acceleration they're capable of. It's like someone is pushing from behind.

Dashed unfortunate old bean.

Less forgivable is the use of the word mom, which along with the rising inflection is starting to plague our speech.mgets on my tits it does.........

I know how you feel, there is nothing worse than things going wrong all at the same time. At least it wasnt all on your car!
On another note, perhaps this highlights how much quality has improved of late. Lets face it, cracks and chips in windscreens is a given, bulbs fail and warranty covered the propshaft shearing. Not to bad IMO, given that 20 years ago it would have been gearboxes, engines and the like...proper big items!

I love how all the posts are about how the OP spelt mum the American way. To be fair that's what got my attention as well.

Or propshafts wink Cheaper than the gearbox going though if out of warranty.

I have grown up customers who still refer to their parents as Mummy and Daddy in conversation, so can't see why you lot are so hooked up on the OP saying Mom, get over yourselves.

With any luck, you won't even be in the UK for much longer.
