Seriously, Audi has the R8, Merc has the SLS and prior SLR, Jag has the F-Type and XKR... BMW has a bunch of saloons and the M X5.... FFS, their engines are great and driving feel is great, why don't they make a R8 / SLS competitor? I own a BMW and have done for years, but I am seriously going off them

The i8 is pretty much this, although it might upset the traditionalists a bit.

You're going off them because they don't make a particular type of car? Unless you're in the market for such a car, how on earth does that affect you?

How odd.

You say that, but halo cars really do seem to work. People actually do buy diesel rep-mobiles on the basis of the supercars that carry the same badge. Strange but true.

Yet BMW seem to be getting by okay without a halo supercar.

Strange OP. What is it that's making you go off the brand?

They've got one, sort of. The i8.

But yes BMW are doing very well at the moment. How long they can continue to live off their badge, remains to be seen. The fact that they're still producing pretty decent cars helps, of course.

They never replaced the 8 series, I for one would love to see it return and be the halo model with some serious petrol engines, including a highly tuned Twin Turbo V12 from the 760, but I'm just dreaming smile

I think the i8 is supposed to fill this place though, the way of the world e.t.c

Do you work for them?

Labelling the 114i or 118d as "brilliant" is a bit strong.

M1 was gorgeous, with its 6 series back lights.

They did a concept M1 a few years back, looked stunning from what I remember, but must have been shelved.

Arguably the M3 and the M5 are at the very top, if not the best, in their respective classes. They don't really need a supercar to sell their badge.
