Joyrider aged just SEVEN freed from flipped car wreckage after taking family VW Golf for a midnight spin

David Johnson thought he had all the angles covered when he sneaked out for a spin in his mother's car.
It was the middle of the night, everyone was asleep, and it was dark outside.
Unfortunately the seven-year-old's first attempt at driving swiftly became common knowledge when he rolled the manual car onto its roof after 30ft.
The red VW Golf narrowly missed parked cars as it swept around in an arc and mounted a pavement on the other side of the road before smashing into a concrete fence post.

Damage: The family VW Golf that David Johnson,7, crashed when he went for a joyride at 1am in Hadleigh, Suffolk

A wheel then rode up the post, flipping the ten-year-old car onto its roof and leaving David trapped upside down in the driver's seat.
Firefighters had to free him from the wreckage and he was treated at hospital for an injured arm before being allowed home.
Police said yesterday they would not be prosecuting the schoolboy because he is three years below the age of criminal responsibility.
Speaking afterwards, David said: 'I wanted to drive the car but I tipped it over and hit the fence.

Destruction: The inside of the car is covered in glass from the child's crash

'I was worried when it went on its roof and I hurt my arm. But then all I thought about was what mum was going to think.'
His mother, Teresa Johnson, who has an older son, said: 'I was just shocked. I came outside and saw the car on its roof and couldn't believe what had happened.
'My only concern at the time was that he got out safely. He must have got the keys off the shelf and taken it for a drive.'
The short-lived joyride happened just after 1am yesterday morning outside David's home in Hadleigh, near Ipswich.
Neighbour Michelle Stone, 46, said: 'I heard a bang and saw the car upside down.
'I later saw a little boy coming out of the car with a fireman holding his hand. At the time I thought an adult must have been in the car with him.
'It is a huge shock to find out he was driving. He was only a little tot and was quite small for his age.
'It makes you wonder how the poor little mite managed to start it and how he reached the pedals.'

Concern: Mother Teresa Johnson said she was worried only that her son got out safely

The tenant of the council house which had its fence damaged said she was 'stunned' to discover the age of the driver.
The mother-of-two, who asked not to be named, said: 'I had got up to get some milk for my baby when I heard a squealing and revving of tyres.
'It lasted a few seconds and then I heard a smash and a massive bang. We thought it was a motorbike to start with.
'My boyfriend ran outside to make the sure the lad was OK. Luckily he only had a small cut on his hand.
'This is usually a very quiet area - but last night we had police, paramedics and a fire engine.'
Suffolk police said they would be investigating the incident but confirmed the boy was too young to prosecute.
A spokeswoman said: 'A red VW Golf overturned and the only occupant of the vehicle - a boy aged seven - was stuck.
'He was freed and taken to hospital with an arm injury.'

Is this a current story as it says the car is 10 years old yet it's on a 'P' registration?

DVLA say they can't find such car and euro car parts says P595 RHG is registered as a 1996 VOLKSWAGEN GOLF 1.6.

Well, it does look like it would have been written off when this happened 5 years ago.
