Buying an MX5 for track

I'm thinking about getting an MX5 as a track toy. Does anyone want to throw some advice my way in terms of where to go, what to spend, what to look for? Whether to buy it pre-prepped with cage etc, or get one ready to be ripped out. How much should you be spending if you want something where you dont care about paintwork, stereo etc and just want a track slag? All advice greatly appreciated.

Best asking this in the dedicated mx5 section or look through the many track day car build threads on mx5nutz. The main thing to look for is rust, everything else is easy and relatively cheap to fix and add (like roll bars, coilovers etc).
Its all personal preference what model to go for between mk1 and mk2 as they're effectively the same car underneath. But pop up headlight models are best imo.
