My (new to me) Mr2 should have 195/55r15 fronts and 225/50r15 rears
I was going to fit Toyo T1-R all around.
But apparently R1-R are much better.
The T1's come in the correct size, where as the R1-Rs come in 195/50r15 and 225/45r15
The car has non standard alloys, i assume 7" wheels all around.
Will the lower profile R1-Rs fit fit safely?

Thank you.
If not, has anyone had any experience with the T1-Rs?

No problem fitting as same width but lower profile will affect speedo reading a small amount.

Im am not overly concerned with the speedo reading.
But from what ive seen 225/45s will be too stretched on a 7" rim.
Any truth in this?

No, 225 will be pretty much bang on for a 7J rim.

No more so than 225/50 would be.

How much harder do you predict the ride will become?

Not much - that small a difference in profile will have less effect on ride than the model of tyre, so it might even get better depending on what you have now.

The difference in profile is around 1cm, so you'll be lowering the car by about that.

The rule of thumb for tyre widths v rim is the rim should be 90% of the tyre width with 1/2in leeway either side.
225/25.4 = 8.86
8.86 x .9 = 7.97
So a 225mm width tyre should ideally be on a 8in rim although a range of 7.5in to 8.5in is OK.
For example, 225mm tyres were specified on 7.5J rims on the front on the BMW E36 M3 Evo from the factory, 245mm on the rear with 8.5J rims.
You need to check with the tyre manufacturer for the definite answer.

Can't see there being a problem - 225 on a 7J rim is standard fit on my Saab (it actually had 235s on there when I bought it). It'll give a little more curve to the sidewall than an 8J rim but it's still within the range of possible tyre/rim sizes.

The tyre manufacturer should be able to give you a recommended wheel size range for their tyres.

Formulae are all well and good, but its a massive mistake to think that 225 really means anything, other than wider than 215 and not as wide as 235, probably (and thats only relative to 215s and 235s in the same model).

For a while I was running 205s on a 8j 17" on the front and 245s on a 7j 18" on the rear.
Was fine.

(On an MR2).

I'd run stock 14", stock 15", Enkei 16", BBS 17" and BK 18" over my time in MR2s.

Sorry to bring up an old(ish) thread, but it turns out the wheels are all 6.5x15
Which was fine for the front 195/50r15s that i had fitted.
But i now need to fit the 225/45r15 rears.
The previous owner/tyre shop managed to get the 225/50r15 tyres onto the 6.5inch width rim and it doesnt look massively odd.
I am looking at a set of Wolfrace Pro-Lite 2 7x15 wheels.
Will both the 195/50r15 and 225/45r15 tyres fit on a 7 inch width rim?
Thank you.

R1Rs are great Tyres. Won't last as long as T1Rs, but awesome grip both wet and dry. A friend of mine both track and road drives a 340 bhp TVR on them.

I have both 205/45 and 235/45 tyres on 7J Wolfrace wheels and frankly the 235s look the better fit. The 205's look a tad small.
