Well had a good weekend and decided to go into town with the other half, we decided to get the family run around washed and take advantage of the local parking with the wash, unfortunately we came back to this-

Not sure how to play it now, guy seemed happy enough for me to get a quote and get the repairs done but I have a feeling a new rear door skin and a repair to the sill won't make it cheap for him. He left me his mobile number and wants to pay cash.

What would you do, hopefully he will pay and I can chalk it off as a bad luck. It's a small outfit and they more than likely wont have any insurance etc but I am going to get a quite for the work tomorrow and go back with the quote, I don't really want Togo ahead with a repair until I have the money from him.

I have a local painter so the prices would be better than going to the main agents.

The gap between the door and rear wing looks a bit wonky, might not be as cheap to repair as you hope.

Just looked on eBay and can get a door in the same colour for £60, just leaves the damaged sill. I want to have it repaired and make it satisfactory to my high standards but also not price it out the way of his reach so to speak.

The way I see it or hope would be a replacement door, a repair to the sill, drivers door rubbing strip and repaint the lot to match?

Basically if I go back with a big repair cost he may not be able to afford it and its left with me to sort, going through the ins is not really an option as I run a garage and the excess is probably the cost of the repair anyway.

Never rains it pours. An unlucky day.

My thoughts exactly, that's the passenger rear door, when you open the drivers door and look at the passenger door edge it is indeed bent.

Got to be worth checking with a smart outfit if they can fix it.

If I supply a door I have been told the paint guy will do it for £300 and he is good with his paint, he has painted plenty of my customers cars for years so I have no doubt it will look great just got to get the money from the car wash.

Have you got it in writing that the guy is going to pay? If not then whats your plan when you call him/turn up with the bill and he has sudden memory failure?

I recently had a very similar scrape on my car along a small wall due to my own stupidity. A paint and bodywork fella I know filled the scrape and painted the doors for just under £400 with VAT. If someone else had caused it I think I'd be inclined to go through the insurance mind you. Hope you get it sorted without cost to yourself.

That is a cheap enough price, even if the secondhand door is the right color it will need painting, and the rear quarter will need blending, so that is 3 panels to paint plus the sill repair, does the price include fitting the door and swapping all the bits ?

I have to get the door and the price is to paint and repair everything else, includes blending the three panels, I run a garage and he is the body shop I use for my customers cars so kinda looking after me. Just wasn't intending to have to use my favour on a non fault like this.

Yes got it all in writing with a photo (him and the car) and his address and phone number, I deal with all sorts at work so I try to cover as many angles as I can think at the time. If he turns into a prize idiot then well I will do what I can but that's the way now, everyone just looks after there self. Lets hope he is genuine.

Off topic but do you only do peugeot's? Just I'm in Leicester (Coalville) and have yet to find a reliable local Indy since I changed jobs and stopped using the trusted one near the old office.

The fleet is all Japanese at the moment. The Wife's Nissan QQ, my Accord and my MX5 toy, which is destined to be a kit car one day.

I do my own servicing, brakes etc, but usually when time or skill runs out i chuck it at an expert and pay to get the job done. I've added your website to the top of my bookmarks list for next time!

How far are you guys from coalville? Would work in my garage (when the car is immobile) be plausible?
