What car for parents. 2k tops.
Discussion
Right, my dad is so not interested in cars it's unreal.
He hates buying and selling them and admits to hating driving.
He's had some dreadful cars over they years and his dream car is a Nissan Cube.
He'd rather not have a car but needs one as my folks live in a village in Hertfordshire.
(Stupidly they moved from London to a village with no train station!)
The local garage buys and sells cars and while the garage owner is quite a decent guy,
he could show my dad any old car and say this is a great car, buy this and my dad will.
So, he has a 2005 Rover 25 1.4 GSi with 42,000 miles up for £1995 and a 2002 Renault Clio auto 1.4 with 45,000 miles also up for £1995.
My dad wants to know which one to have?
When my dad said what would you have I said neither. For 2k I'd go and get myself a Saab 9-5 aero estate and have change for some stage 3 goodies.
So now I would like to provide some alternatives.
Needs to be quite small, (my parents think my 9-5 saloon is vast) but not a Ford Ka as thats what they already have and they complain it's too small.
Ideally 5 doors, economical, no more than 2k and reliable.
I thought of a 5 door Nissan Micra but that is probably still too small.
Focus? Although I bet my dad would say it's too big!!

Haha, yes it could indeed be a thankless task but thought i'd see what a few people might suggest.
If I had to choose then yes maybe the Rover, an automatic Renault might well be asking for trouble.
They're both so dull though.
Was hoping maybe to show my dad something for 2k and he might, just might, go oh wow, that's actually a cool car.

£2k will get all manner of V8 barges, howling 6-cyl slinky coupes, revvy 4-pot 2 seater sports cars, mud plugging 4x4 off-roaders... but if you dad hates cars like you say, then why bother? Just say "I'd go with the Rover as it's probably less troublesome than an automatic Renault.
It would be like my wife deciding to take the time to try and explain in a compelling way what makes "I'm a celeb in the jungle" funny and worth watching - we both know it's a futile exercise so no point bothering!

Yaris?

Two owners, central locking, air con, alloys.
Not a lot wrong with that I'd imagine.
