Hi All, got home tonight to find my coolant temperature HIGH (only 7mile drive home) and popped bonnet to see coolant pissing out of the base of my radiator.

The radiator was new supplied and fitted by a Subaru specialist back in january, so contacted them and they said if I can get the car to them - they should be able to swap it out under warranty for the part.

Problem is, they're 40miles away.

I've got the AA cover you get with a Halifax Ultimate Reward current account, they've rescued me homestart a few times before due to flat batteries etc - but do you think I've got any chance on blagging a tow 40miles? As it's AWD, I guess it'll need to be on a flatbed too.

I'm not interested in a local garage dealing with it, if I've got to pay for the part I'd rather just replace it myself - but I'd prefer a free replacement/repair!

I think the RAC have a 8 mile limit and I assume the AA are similar.

I managed to blag 12 miles before but I doubt you'll get 40!

Can't you just drive 5 miles, wait half an hour and repeat?

Would it hold up if you put a tub of K Seal in there? does it only piss out when car is hot or does it lose coolant straight away?

Drive some of the distance even 10/20miles that direction then call AA as you have just had a breakdown?

I'm with the AA and I can choose to be taken anywhere in the country!
Might be worth checking?

I thought most Subarus had a fuse to disable AWD, allowing ground towing?

Either way, sounds like you're stuck!

The OP's not with the AA though, he's with the Halifax who provide the bare minimum of AA cover as part of a reward scheme, and besides as I understand it the AA won't tow you away from home.
