Lamborghini Cabrera - hear it here!

Gallardo is history but the marketing bull for its replacement starts here

With the last sod of earth barely clumping onto the Gallardo's coffin Lamborghini is already starting the process of hyping up its Cabrera successor. Our colleagues on Autocar have already bagged a bunch of spy shots of the new car out testing on the 'ring, revealing junior Aventador looks with just a smidge of Murcielago courtesy of a sill-mounted cooler intake. Watch those kerbs when you're parking...

Meanwhile the official preamble to unveiling the new car at Geneva next spring commences with a 'Project Hexagon' microsite that enables you to 'discover the roar of the new creature from Lamborghini' via an animated starter button. See, and hear, here.

'That will just be the beginning' says the site, inviting you to sign up, share and/or indulge in all manner of social media activity to keep in touch with the forthcoming Gallardo successor. Which, as we've seen, has some big boots to fill.

Cabrera was originally just a name that someone on F-chat made up. Are you saying it's now (semi)-official ?

Reminds me of Lamborghini's old website, perhaps in 1999 or 2000, where you could turn this key and start up a Diablo.

Good to see they are keeping the V10 and offering a manual box!

Could be worse. One of the other famous breeds of Spanish bull mentioned in the Autocar article is Vistahermosa-Parladé!

Such a shame that Audi has stopped Lamborghini using a downsized carbon tub from the Aventador, and for reasons of economy will have an aluminium chassis almost exactly the same as the new R8 and unless you've seen one post crash the current R8 chassis is not strong enough to prevent break up in the event of a hard impact. Never the less the Cabrera will outperform the new R8 and be slightly wilder than the Audi.
Let's hope it keeps Lamborghini making Audi's wild side sports cars.

Looking at those spy pics, I know they are heavily disguised but I am not liking what I see. The Gallardo was a classic shape and able to last a decade without looking outdated because its looks were timeless. This looks like just a smaller version of a Murcielago and hence dated before it's even come out. I was hoping they'd be a little bit more adventurous with the new baby Lambo then this tbh.

Could be better if they swapped the b in cabrera for an r. idea

Apart from spooky lights at the back and big air suckers, how is this a new model and not a Gallardo?

Is Lambo taking a cue from Porsche and violently defending the "every component is new" motif?
