Sunday i went to purchase my first bangernomics car,

I was actually excited to go and buy it..

So here she is

2001 Nissan Almera Sport Plus

122000 miles, recent timing chain service, 10 months MOT..

Everything and i mean everything works as it should..
yesterday i sent some time checking the car over, done antifreeze, water, oil etc..

I even packed my snow chains in the boot..

To say im happy with the car is an understatement specially for the grand sum of £400.. And the guy put £20 worth of fuel for me to get home..

Wish me luck everyone

(apologies i cannt upload a pic, i'll get a friend to do this shortly)

£400!
Thats a cheap if conventionally undesirable Motor, I like it!
Bet that'll be reliable as hell too, good shedding, now get out there and buy a big cheap barge to go with it.

i have a BMW 320 but 22 mpg down country lanes is getting a bit heavy on the pocket..

My Grandad had one of those (doesnt that say it all!) hehe

Utterly competent motor, likely to last forever with zero maintenance.

If you are going to shed on an ultra budget, this is the way to do it.
Thats exactly why i went for this really.. almost zero rust.. fingers crossed

Good buy, so really £380 as there was £20 of fuel.

Less £100 scrap value and you have a car for £280, can't grumble

What kind of condition is the front crossmember in?

If it is not already wafer thin, clean it up and underseal it before it rots away.

Ive contemplated this too. Getting a 1.3 Micra Sport, don't laugh! Because their indestructible. There's a reason they make a popular entry level rally car. and just running it into the ground.

But then i'd have to replace my VRS with something more exciting.

But thats a bargain i quite admire these stupidly cheap cars.

The guy who had it before me had this checked and undersealed... i poked and prodded everywhere underneath and couldnt fault any of it..

apart from the 50 pence sized rust on the one arch there isnt anything anywhere on there .. :-)

I had an Almera Sport+ in this colour too! Mine was the 2.2 110hp diesel. Quite agricultural but I liked it, in an old fashioned diesel kind of way.

Only things I had go wrong were one power steering pipe corroded through. Ignition switch went, which meant the car would only turn over intermittently. Rear brake caliper seized.

All of the above I fixed myself fairly easily, and it was a very dependable car. Servicing is easy to do yourself. Only sold it as I needed something bigger. You can pick them up really cheaply, as you have discovered.

Tyres were quite pricey though because of unusual sized wheels.

Looks like shedding will go well for you.

My £400 stter is a pain now. It is in limp mode so revs are limited to 2500k and is slow as fk anyway. Has a water leaking issue. Clutch is on the floor.

Modern diesels dont make good sheds.

But i like its practicality

Will last forever in that case.

I assume it's the 1.8 - what exactly was done to the timing chain? It's worse for stretching it's chain than the 1.5 (although that also happens to high mileage 1.5s)

I've had two 1.5s, both pretty boggo spec models. Both utterly dependable although the cheaper and older of the two had a battery drain issue I never bothered to sort.

ive done about 150 miles since buying it and so far so good .... the only thing i wish it had was a tow bar.. so im currently on the look out for one.. (need to tow trailers for my logs)

Should be 2nd hand tow bars kicking around for it I reckon.

Regular oil changes and keep an eye on the rust and it'll be a cracking shed for the money.

I am running about in a rather nice Astra 2.2 SRI that I got for banger money. I have hand washed it once, and given it a blast on the jet wash once. Put about 5000 miles on it since July and it is running perfectly.

Needs the alignment done and a service, still deciding if it is worth doing or not.

It is nice not worrying about where it is parked etc!

National Tyres will do alignment for £15 if you print the voucher from their website - hard to justify not getting it sorted for that price!

A service IMO is a no brainer, couple of hours dicking around on the driveway to stop it from lunching itself, why not?

That is a good price, I will get that sorted. Cheers!

Problem with the service is I don't own any tools so would need to buy everything and that is a lot of money I don't really want to spend. It is on 88k at the moment and was last done at 77k so not the end of the world at the moment.
