Hi,

Hopefully buying a M3 in the near future.

Was wondering about pre purchase inspections.

Who does them? Do they come out or do you have to take the car to them? Rough cost? Any backup if they miss something which turns out expensive?

Thanks

Daston

Not sure about BMWs but I used a chap to search for my TVR, he went and test drove the car for me and checked it over. He then called me to let me know what he thought about the car and how much he would pay.

Two days later I then received a 15 page document with his report.

Now when I sold the car I took it to a specialist to look over (the person looking to buy it from me paid for this) and from what I understand the specialist then did a report for the chap highlighting any problems.

For specialist cars - I would say specialist inspections are the ones to go for, i.e. find someone who specialises in the marque and use their services.

The additional benefit (assuming tehy are local ish to you) - it might be the start if a relationship as they can help you look after the car whilst in your ownership.

Owners clubs forums are excellent sources of whom you can use?

When I bought my CSL Munich legends did a PPI inspection on it, I was happy with the service they found a number of faults, most of which were very minor.

I expect most other specialists will over a similar service.

ML charged me in the region of £100 and I'd recommend getting somewhere which does them at their workshop as really you want them to get it up on a ramp for a thorough inspection
