Apparently, due to high levels of corruption, car insurance in Russia requires all drivers to install dash-cams. The video is hairy scary - Amazingly everybody walked away (including the dog). Some pretty abysmal driving but a couple of excellent bits of avoidance

I've seen some of those before - they're very popular on YouTube.

What always strikes me is people's complete lack of self preservation. They all seem to drive insanely fast in the snow (and I'm someone who likes to drive fast), they rarely even acknowledge approaching junctions (where traffic just *might* impede their progress), and the pedestrians crossing the roads are usually very drunk.

But the lorries... oh my... how much devastation the lorries cause when their loads come loose, or the drivers cut across traffic, drive too fast in the snow or when cornering. In that video everyone appears to have lived (can't work out how) but Russia is 10x worse than Poland (where I've personal experience of the roads) so there must be thousands of deaths per year because of this type of daftness.

It's taken me about 10 minutes to watch that video after rewinding in disbelief at nearly every clip!

Not true!

(the bit about requiring dashcams, the corruption is true - and the driving is certainly awful)

That's the only way we see meteorites!

My dash cam clips are slightly less interesting although I do have one of a bint coming he wrong way along a duel-carriageway.

They seems to have different physics to us in Russia! One thing I liked was how people just got up and dusted themselves down after massive collisions where as in this country they would be wailing and waiting for the spinal board.

The standard of roadcraft looks abysmal in Russia but peoples reactions in taking avoiding action in a lot of the clips was impressive, some were really on the ball.

I've watched lots of these on youtube and it amazes me that anyone rides a motorbike in Russia.
There seems to be a total lack of awareness of anything else on the road.
I have a Russian friend and she is the only one in her family who passed a test the rest of her family bought their licences.

After watching so many of those dash cam clips, I know there's no way in hell I'd ever drive in Russia.. the place is insane.

I've lost many hours watching Russian dash-cam clips on youtube; some of the actions you see just defy beleif. It's the unfiltered junctions that seem to be the main culprits; judging by the clips I think Russia must have a first-come/first serve approach to 4 way junctions. It's between that and people turning left across 3 lanes of traffic at a moments notice.

The driving over there is just mad, there is no surprise they have these cameras.

A lot of employees cars around work have been having dash cams set up over the last few months. Has me wondering when they are going to either be introduced as an insurance discount ( like a black box) or even compulsory here in the UK!
(obviously positives and negatives to come with them)
