"Then, Carrera GT owner Ben Keaton offered to give fellow car fan Corey Rudl a ride in his new sports car at the California Speedway track.
After another driver in a Ferrari pulled out in front of the pair, they swerved to avoid a collision but careered straight into the track's concrete wall"

yup, its the cars fault someone pulled out? lazy journalism

You can`t use the word "journalism" in conjunction with the Daily Mail.
Subpar sensationalist rag that`s been caught outright fabricating stories and little in the way of fact-checking.

While the Carrera GT is abit of a skittish beast with an ultra sensitive clutch etc, it is ultra safe with the carbon tub and race derived safety.

What happened was a freak accident.

I think Porsche might be a bit ahead of the Wail this time. They stopped making the thing in 2007, not sure how banning it would pan out.

"Should the Porsche that killed Fast & Furious Paul Walker be on the roads?"

Who writes this ste? Cars are objects, bit like guns and knifes... on their own they do not kill. In the hands of humans however, they can be potentially lethal.

Sod it, let's ban people and whilst we're at it, let's ban trees too.

See, if they had banned the Lotus Cartlon 20 years ago we wouldn't have a problem with driving standards on the roads today! wink

Btw, does the DM ever win any comedy awards?

Think it was Walter Rohrl that said the problem with the CGT was the original issue tyres (michelin?) were not developed enough in conjunction with the car and once that was sorted out it would be a lot more benign. Did one of the UK car mags not do a test recently where a CGT had been fitted with new/revised boots and it apparantly transformed it's character massively for the better?

Let's ban Corsa's, Saxo's etc. because chav's keep crashing them.

Let's ban McDonalds because fat people can't control themselves.

Simply ridiculous. I don't know why I'm shocked though.

I keep hearing this car "is the most dangerous on the road".

Can anyone here who has driven one agree that it truly unforgiving?

Its a great car, but not for a novice. I found the car to be viscerally exciting at the time I tried it, ran it up to about 180 MPH at one stage and found it felt very, very light, but was always aware that there was no stability control.Driver with a lot more skill than I have would have been able to test its limits, but I felt that it might bite very badly in the event of a mistake. I would have bought on if I could have afforded it at the time....a quick review I wrote in 2007 below:

http://www.autoweek.com/article/20070711/free/7071...

Should it be banned?..not at all. However, I wonder what insurance rates will look like.

Hugely tttish as they may be, the DM effectively pulled the content of this article from Jalopnik, which is as much to blame as their article is just pointlessly sensational. For a car blog they do the CGT a great disservice; I have read plenty of owners' accounts (our man Flemke on here, for one) who paint the car as brilliantly handling and capable.

To be fair, a good number of Carrera GT's have been stuffed backwards into barriers and hedges. It does have a reputation for being easy to spin and it is tricky to get the best out of it. That said, driving at legal speeds would not be a risk or dangerous in any way. So hate to think how you drive it to get it to be "dangerous".

But then again, its part of the mystique and lure of the car - and they always have been over time. Think of countless Lambo's, Facel Vegas etc... and dont forget how many cars have been nicknamed "widowmakers" over the years. It is what drives the desire.

By the same token we also need to ban:

1) Horses
2) Judo
3) Scuba diving
4) Skydiving
5) Electric Toasters
6) Bicycles
7) etc etc etc

clearly all unnecessarily and "dangerous"...... ;-)

The simple fact of the matter is that two people chose to get into a high performance car and died as a result. Their choice, Their decision, They paid the price.

It's just typical Daily Mail sensationalist click-fodder. By even discussing it, we're playing their game and losing.

Move along, nothing to see here.
