New Ford Mustang leaked

Scanned Autoweek magazine blows lid on Ford's new 'global' Mustang

Despite a serious effort and some scary looking non-disclosure agreements (ask us how we know) Ford's attempt to keep the all-new Mustang secret ahead of a coordinated global unveiling seems to have been blown by Autoweek magazine.

US fans concerned by Mustang's global role
US fans concerned by Mustang's global role
Early copies of the magazine featuring the new Mustang on the cover under the headline '2015 Ford Mustang - Is it all you hoped it would be?' and in a feature titled 'The world's 'stang' were photographed by a member of the SVTPerformance forum and shared among members. This was seized upon by US media and quickly distributed online, the images now having gone viral.

The new Mustang's global remit to spread the new age muscle car message to an audience beyond its traditional North American heartland has clearly resulted in some soul searching among traditional fans. Indeed, Autoweek introduces its piece 'What taking America's famed Pony Car global means and what it will cost us', underlining the sense of ownership American fans have.

Will the new Mustang's international ambassadorial role diminish the traditional appeal of this Stateside icon though? We'll find out soon when the full details go live but in the meantime Ford can at least take heart that the speed with which the leak has spread around the world indicates there is indeed a global appetite for the car.

Fantastic. Looks just like a Mustang should. One day (when the bank says yes again) i would love to own a Mustang. As a child of the 60/70's here in the UK i still lament the passing of the Capri so it's great to see the US enduring blue collar coupe looking as it should. Stuff boring white goods. More cars like this please.

Not for me.
I'll stick to my "proper" Mustang while Ford go chasing BMW with this generic Euro-car.
I suppose they know how many 370Zs Nissan sold.

When I first saw the picture, I thought Hyundai had released a new coupe.

It's not very original at all.

Is it just me or does every iteration of the Mustang look, err very similar. Not saying it's a bad looking car as I quite like the butch angular looks but when Porsche get accused of making every 911 the same, I am surprised this gets away with it. To my untrained eye this looks no different to a car they released almost 10 years ago.

Nope, I said almost. Wasn't sure of the exact date but that 2005 car looks pretty identical to this new one don't you think?

Looks like a budget A5/S5.

Not great photos, but I'm not expecting much either.

I guess my eye is more 'trained' than yours but it does look different to mine (2006).

Like the 911 it is an evolution rather than revolution but then again, it is the same model, nothing wrong with that imo.

I'll be interested to see some shots of the rear.

So this is the RHD version we finally getting... with a 2.0 engine.

Something about buying a car like this with an engine out of a focus shopping hack is a little soul destroying, like when the capri had a 1.3 frown

Except more far Eastern, with an even cheaper looking grille.

I agree. All that bay space going to waste it would seem.

Pricing and engine options will be the key drivers for the UK market (assuming the RHD version does exist). I'd like confirmation of both but the pics look OK, still obviously a Mustang which is good.

In fact looking at the first photo again, the rear 3/4 line looks more like the current Camaro than a previous gen Mustang.
