I don't know if it's just me but I cannot see the point of cupholders? Surely if you ever actually put a drink in one it would be laminated across the entire interior of the car within the first mile? Also I remain highly unconvinced that drinking a scolding hot beverage whilst driving a car is a good plan. If an emergency occurs and you have to drop the drink in your lap to use both hands to deal with it then having boiled genitalia is surely going to impede ones focus on the situation? The usage of such a device would also presumably entail using a drive-through fast food establishment which I have never personally done. Do real, grown up human beings not wearing tracksuits or baseball caps actually do this?

Mine are used as storage for sunglasses, pens, CDs, parking tickets and all the other rubbish that accumulates in a car. Surely the space could be better used as nice big square storage compartments instead of these pointless round recesses which aren't a useful shape for storing anything other than a cup?

Yes.

I often have a Costa in one and a bottle of water in another.

Do you buy the Costa and then get in the car or is there such a thing as a drive-through Costa? Do you drink it on the move or is it just stored there for when you arrive?

Yes. I put cans or cups in them, to drink either whilst driving or when I arrive somewhere.

I have 4 cupholders in my mx-5, yes 4 in a 2 seater car. Just incase me and my invisible friend get super thirsty.

My waterbottle nestles nicely in the Volvo cupholder. Surprisingly the Caterham doesn't have cupholders wink but I hang a Camelbak off the back of the seat if I'm on a long journey.

Stop at service station for a wizz and buy a Costa while in there. generally wait for it to cool down a lot before I drink it... I like cold coffee...

Yep I find them very useful for putting cans, bottles of water or other closed top drinks in. What I do find annoying are some cars where you try to put a drink in and find the cupholders are far too small to hold even an averaged size drink, then I'd agree with. Really what is the point? Have you just put them in just to tease me?

My old work had a 118D pool car with no cup holders at all cry

I use the ones in the X5 for bottles of water. I would never put a hot drink in one.

I don't use the ones in the Aston, because they are behind the gearstick. I just jam a bottle behind the passenger seat.

I use them to hold a coffee if I am on a long drive in the morning - my OH makes me a coffee to go. Or a can of drink.

I just use mine to hold my iPhone securely.

Never used a cup holder for a cup before and bottles are just too top-heavy and fall over. I've never used a drive-thru' so maybe I'm missing out.

I could happily survive without cup holders.

The one by the gearstick in my Mondeo holds my phone very nicely, or a can of Coke. In the Scooby it's one for the Coke and one for the phone. And as long as you drink the first few mouthfuls you can drive quite aggressively without spilling.
