Change to VED - FINALLY
Discussion
George Osborne will today announce that, from next year, we will be able to pay "road tax" by monthly Direct Debit.
Personally, I think this is great. 5% is a small price to pay to make sure you don't have two cars to tax at the end of December!!
There's also a plan to scrap the disc altogether, but I can't find an accurate source for this.

My immediate thought? £490 for a 'Band M' car is a lot more palatable at £42.88 a month and might even get me something smoky in the not too distant future.

Wish it was scrapped altogether and melded into fuel costs so it was actually linked to usage.
That said I'd welcome the monthly payment providing it was the same price or cheaper much like utilities bills can be.
My suspicion is they will start quoting prices per month and then inch them up over time since the figures sound smaller.

I still like the 84p a month mine would cost me better.http://www.independent.co.uk/life-style/motoring/m...

This is a precursor to rises. If you make it seem more palatable or easier to pay there is always a catch.
+1It makes it 'seem' more affordable so they can justify increasing tax in the future. My suspicion will be the rises will be larger than expected and they will point out its 'easier' to pay now with the dd facility
