and only had one big bill of 1.5k to repair the engine. Had ball joints and new clutch plus usual service cost nothing that cost much. Dam good car.
Cool story bro... and only had one big bill of 1.5k to repair the engine. Had ball joints and new clutch plus usual service cost nothing that cost much. Dam good car.

But seriously best at what?? I buy and own cars for different purposes. On that basis they are all the best at doing what I intended them to do, given budget constraints.
H reg ford escort 1.4L
bought it on sight for £800 when a student and desparate for a car (1999/2000 I think)
Ran it non stop for 3 years on a tight budget virtually no maintenance. If I remember rightly Im not sure I could even cover an oil change. Never let me down. Never broke down. Never failed to start. Only thing was I had to undercoat it as I bought it from who lived in the sticks and it used to get damp in the footwells.
Sold it for £350 I think.

I think it's quite clear what he means by best car... Really don't know why people need to be so picky.
You must all have a favourite car you've owned... Whether it be a banged up people carrier you'd formed an attachment with, or a supercar that never failed to make you smile, or a bog standard astra that did everything you wanted it to do.
It's not hard to say "My best car has been a X because it did X really well."

Best is a subjective tag and depends on many factors such as what you had before, when you had the car, how you used the car and what effect it had on your life.
I'm 54 now and have no doubts that my supercharged Mustang is infinitely superior to my first American car in 1993, a 9 year old Corvette C4. However, I used the Corvette as a daily, honned and hooliganed around in it and it was both a coupe and a targa for wind in the hair motoring. Despite a mere 240hp, it seemed to go like stink, even compared to my old R5 GT Turbo which would be faster in an urban environment and fun in a different way.
However, i love my Vette, it's rarity, it's V8 and the great times it engendered. So whilst not "best" in terms of physics, it was "best" in terms of enjoyment.

It's not clear to me at all, and neither to others which is why they are being 'picky'. Is my best car the first one I owned? No, because it wasn't the fastest. My first 'fast' car? No, because it broke down a lot. The fastest car I have ever owned? No, because it used a lot of fuel. The one I enjoyed driving the most? No, because it was noisy, awkward to get into and out of and had no luggage space at all.
On that basis I have never had a 'best' car.
Oli.
My best car was my Subaru Impreza Turbo 2000. Bought for relative buttons, loved driving it, cost me little, had character and only sold to help fund a Caterham. It now resides in Aberdeen with a friend. I visit it occasionally. And the friend. I wish I'd never sold it and would buy it back six days out of seven.

Well you're a very unfortunate person then. I find it very hard to believe if you were in the pub and someone said to you "what's the best car you've had?" you'd turn around and be like "I don't understand the question, you're making no sense". Naturally, something should pop to mind straight away whether it was a car with downsides or not. In my opinion it would be something that made you feel good about yourself or that felt most natural to drive. Is my best car the first one I owned? No, because it wasn't the fastest. I can't really contribute to the thread as I've had a grand total of 2 cars, my current one not even owned for a week yet but if I was going to decide, I'd say my current mx-5 is certainly my best car and will probably hold its spot there for a good few years. Never have I had so much fun while driving or being a passenger and the option to have the roof down in December and not even feel a chill is just fantastic. I may have only owned the car for a few days but it's definitely one of the best handling cars I think I'll ever drive.
