Toyota TS030: Pic Of The Week

Toyota's fantastic enduro racer in all its glory at Bahrain

When thinking of Le Mans and endurance racing, it's difficult not to think of Audi. But there has been recent and welcome success from elsewhere. Peugeot dipped its toe into the water and Toyota is still plugging away with results to show for it. An encouraging debut at Le Mans last year became a second and a fourth this season, and there have been victories for the hybrid TS030 at Shanghai, Sao Paulo and Fuji.

POTW this time round is from last weekend's Six Hours of Bahrain. The #8 car featured here won the race driven by Anthony Davidson, Stephane Sarrazin and Sebastien Buemi.

And who doesn't like to see a racing car at night with brake discs glowing? Huge thanks to Drew Gibson for donating the image for POTW. If you're interested in seeing more of his work, see Drew's website and his beautiful 2014 calendar. Christmas is getting closer after all...

Was at a shoot of this car at TMC Cologne a year or so back. The thing that surprises you the most is just how small it is. The cockpit is snug to say the least. Lovely functional details everywhere.

So those scrambler type motorcycles that are called 'Enduro' relates to some kind of off road endurance racing like Paris-Dakar?

Peugeot did rather more than put a toe in the water I think, committing to a 5 year programme, full 3 season campaign (which was intended to be longer), heavily revised cars and a 1-2 at Le Mans. Wikipedia says it won 19 of 28 races entered, which I have no reason to dispute, it was typically a faster car than the Audi, just not always as reliable.

Great car and very brave of Toyota to keep plugging away at Audi who have been at this area of m/sport for a long time.
