My non-petrolhead mate is after:

Economical (probably diesel), load carrying, 4WD, but overall MOST COMFY car he can get for £5K.

He is looking at a 4WD Jag X-type estate at the moment, but surely we can do better than that?

Suggestions welcome...

Does he realise that AWD X-Types only come in 2.5 and 3.0 petrols? My saloon returns around 30mpg for commuting.

Having said that, they are very comfy and in SE or Sovereign trim, exceptionally well equipped. A 'nice place to sit' if you will.

The Audi is an excellent suggestion. Also try Volvo XC90 circa 53 reg with 120'000 on the clock.

For pure comfort, surely a Citroen would be best. A c crosser can be had for about 8k
