If your car didn't exist, what would you have bought instead?

If the car that you drive now didn't exist (I mean make and model rather than the specific car), what would you have bought instead? To keep a level playing field, let's assume you would have spent similar money.
Current car - 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee
Alternative - Difficult one, really wanted a 4x4 (live in rural Canada) but really liked the Jeep and nothing close for the price (don't like the Ford and GM SUVs much). The dealership where I bought the Jeep also had a 2003 FFRR which was rather nice but major bork factor and twice the price. The only other vehicle that I looked at that I could conceivably afford and liked was a Chrysler 300 V6 but not really comparable to a Jeep!
My last UK fleet would have been much easier to decide!
Instead of the Subaru Impreza WRX, I would have bought a mk5 Golf GTI or mk4 Golf R32 or if I was feeling extra brave that day an Alfa 156 GTA, although the Subaru was unbeatable for performance per pound at the time IMO.
Instead of the Fiat 500 1.2, I would have bought a Suzuki Swift 1.3. Not the same showroom appeal but a very good little car.

My current car is a Lotus Elise and so was the one before it. Both the lotuses were/are silver, gunmetal and then carbon grey.
Hoping I'm not wrong here but I think that for the same sort of money, when I bought the first one, I could have had a MK2 Jag and that is, undoubtedly, what I would have. They are very cool. I still hanker after one I saw at a car auction, half restored, dark green, some kind of special edition with those shark gill style louvres in the side of the bonnet, red leather and carpets. Lovely inside. Horrible steering wheel though, a giant wooden thing that was more like a kids hoop. Lovely though.
As for colour (because I'm a girl and it's important); midnight blue or dark green, I think.
Cheers

My daily banger is a Volvo V40 D3 R-Design thingy, nice car but if it hadn't have been that it'd very likely have been the Octavia VRS diesel.
My second car is an 11 plate Clio Cup, if that didn't exist then the FN2 type-R would be in it's place as me and a friend who owns one swapped cars for a week and I really liked it, sometimes I wish I'd bought one instead of the Clio.

Current car is a Ford Focus 1.8 Zetec. If it didn't exist, any other cheap to run, medium-large hatchback could replace it. As it happens, in this sector the old Focus is a nicer drive than most of it's contemporaries, so that is a bonus. I only bought it so I could spend on biking instead.
When I had my Civic Type R, a car I really loved, I would have probably answered Clio 182. Great chassis, but not the brilliant engine and gearbox of the Civic, but crucially it was a NA hot hatch, which is what I really wanted after my Cupra R 225.

Now that's a difficult one. Current car is a Jag XF-S. Previously had German cars (BMWs & Audis), but TBH, they're all turfing out shiite these days. Just awful awful looking shiite, which is why I got the Jag, and very pleased I am too with it. I really can't think what I'd buy instead, but probably look at an E46 M3. The last decent car they made.
