Quick 9-5 Aero manual vs auto question

Hi There,
Just lost out on a manual 9-5 Aero estate on eBay. Am waiting to see if anyone on here pops up with it!
I am clearly having a Swedish 2.3turbo itch that needs to be scratched as last week it was an S60T5.
With the Volvo's I have been avoiding autos completely because of the geartronic gearbox risk, but is the risk with the Saab 9-5's the same?
I would prefer a manual but if 9-5 Aero autos are not any more problematic than manuals then I'll stop ruling them out on purely that basis. (Am looking at 2002 and on facelifts btw). Does the auto rob them slightly of their edge?
