This may be old news but I have never seen this before:-

Spotted near Woolwich Ferry. I can understand parking charges by physical size of vehicle but by engine size is stupid!

Says nothing about a fine being issued if you just pay the lowest rate regardless of your car's engine...

Talk about completely misguided. I have absolutely no time for the myth of the green lobbyists (they're almost as bad as BRAKE!), but to analogise "greenness" with engine displacement is utterly, utterly bizarre.

My car has no badges, and could be anything from a 1.4 to a 3.2, how will they know if I've paid the right amount? Surely they don't request the details of every car parked there, just in case?

Simon.

Edit: Or, perhaps the other way round. I'm the sort of prat who has a 3.0 TURBO! badge on the back of my 800cc Daihatsu, will I get a ticket for paying the "wrong" amount?

That is well spotted. I have no idea how they would know........ and no idea how they fine based upon it.

Would they get that information from ANPR cameras? I know that the car park at Brighton train station uses ANPR to work out how much you have to pay but that's purely on a time basis

What are you supposed to do if you're in a hired car and have no way if knowing how big the engine is?

It is totally moronic.

It's a privately run CP but in assuming done so under LA authority?

But it is good to know that all types of car only pollute when stationary in a Monday to Saturday basis. God obviously makes hydrocarbons burn differently in the Sabbath.

Foisted upon them by planning permission conditions perhaps?

ASDA in Sheffield got a lot of stick here recently for making the spaces near to the entrance for low tax band cars only. This was a condition forced upon them by Sheffield City Council, although this fact didnt seem to stop the forum wallys from ranting...

Of course, it could be misguided bks on behalf of the sites owners, but they can do whatever they like.

I wanted to see what would happen if I parked ny car in one of those but decided against it. Fail. They were usually empty when I went there ss well. Waste.

I have a photograph somewhere of my red 944 Turbo parked in one. It made me smile but no one else cared. It certainly isnt in ASDAs interest to enforce it.

This makes me disproportionately worried. In this modern day and age, a group of people (several no doubt) will have held no doubt several meetings, spent time discussing this, working out how to make money off it, the sign, placement, conditions, working with the council on it, spending no doubt several thousand ££££s on this...and the best they could come up with is that. We are a hopeless species frown

Nice. I have to visit Sheffield at some point next year, if I haven't taken my car off the road by then I may take it and do the same smile

Surely it is more logical to offer discounts to more polluting cars so as to encourage them to park for longer and therefor pollute less?

That's the problem with zealots, they are simply people who are wired incorrectly so can't think straight. It's a mental health issue.
