Nice one, sounds interesting, good luck with the project.

These guys produce bespoke kits to fit bike engines into Smarts.

And I've just done a Google search - if you do the same, you'll find millions of information about it - it's fairly common it seems.

Best thumbup

I've always thought the Roadster (particular in Brabus spec) would be a better candidate for a bike engine.

Or perhaps something else from Mercedes. Is there a 200bhp 2.0 Turbo engine in a B class?

Even the late 1050 Sprint engines only makes 123bhp from the factory, how on earth have managed to get it up to 150bhp? yikes

One thing I would say is that it would be worth keeping the De-dion rear axle if possible; fully trailing arm rear suspension is pretty poor unless you have negligible body roll as there is no camber control at all.

They are all a too heavy to make the best use of a (sports)bike engine, unless you can really trim them down. Lugging ~4 times the weight of the original bike around puts a lot of stress on the clutch and gearbox.
