Hi all

I was hoping someone on here might have some experience on this one. I've got a 2005 Mk 3 Mondeo TDCI (130, not the 115), and it pops out of 3rd. No other gear does it pop out of, and there is generally no problem getting it in (although on occasion it can be a little stiff. Car has done 60k, had the clutch and DMF replaced 15k ago, and before then had a very hamfisted driver who insisted on driving it despite having his legs all bandaged up (hence why clutch was completely fooked).

So, any guesses as to what it might, how it might be fixed and how much lighter my bank balance will be afterwards? Otherwise the car drives absolutely fine (apart from a light front end) so I'm a bit loathed to ditch it if there is no need.

Thanks

I had an ST220 that popped out of second when I got it (MMT6 gearbox). Transpired the plastic bits round the selector fork (or that is roughly how the garage described it to me - may have called them bushings) had worn through and fallen off. New ones were installed and it all worked again. But I suspect if you get a cheap second hand box that would be easier. IIRC it's about 5-6 hours to swap the box on one of those so if you go down that route might be worth doing clutch and DMF at the same time to save future expense.

£1000!! Why did Ford have to make the box so much of an issue to remove?

Its modern and FWD, they are pretty much all a pain to remove.

When I had gearbox problems earlier this year I found the best thing to do was take it to a gearbox specialist - no $hit sherlock!! Try and get a recommendation for someone local.

Ultimately ended up with a recon box fitted which cost £550 as a cash in hand job. That was on a toyota corolla.

Someone who knows these things inside out might be able to offer a more palatable solution.

To get the gearbox out of an Evora you have to dismantle the rear of the car! That includes for clutch replacement.
