BMW M235i Racing: Time For Tea?

BMW teases skiddy little M235i Racing, we want to have a go NOW!

The new BMW M3 and M4 promise much. But there's a nagging doubt - articulated in an earlier blog - that 'M' now stands as much for marketing as it does motorsport. And if you fear the new M models might be too much of the former and not enough of the latter there exists a ray of light. Possibly.

If it looks even two thirds as good we're in

That we are fans of the M135i has been well (very well) documented. Extrapolating all that we like about that car into a more handsome two-door - complete with a limited-slip diff - and you get the M235i. We can't wait.

Take all of the above, blister the arches, strip it, cage it, tickle the power slightly to 333hp and we really, REALLY can't wait. OK, so the M235i Racing is intended for competition use only. But come on BMW, how much do we want to see a road legal version and an updated take on the thuggish 1 Series M Coupe?

Lots. Sounded right up our street from the press release and teaser rendering. Looks it too, going by this little vid. A compact three-box saloon with blistered arches, tail-happy handling and proper racing pedigree? Where have we seen that before?

See here.

Im gutted it doesn't appear to have the E30 boxy arch extensions...

But I wouldn't kick it out of the garage if it misfired..

I like the look but i won't be changing my 1M for it - flappy ugh paddle sees to that!

Re when the road version will be i would imagine this thing will race for a while to establish the pedigree and then the road version will be released to give another Icon..

Looking forward to the cooking 2 series models, a relatively small car lighter than the usual M cars & decent power...seems like a good recipe to me.

In old M3s that's where... And that's why I'm much more excited about the future M2 than the upcoming M3/M4.

Ive always thought it was applied to short videos that you could watch whilst having a tea break at work?

But will there be an even more special M2? Or is this the extent of how far they would go, I love my 135i m coupe and wonder if this would be a good upgrade.

I doubt any forthcoming M2 road car would be more special. This is a race car.

I wonder how much extra it would be to add all those M Performance goodies onto the road car...

Simply have a break and watch it, which is kind of assumed...when you decide to watch it. Unless watching a video is supposed to be hard work that requires caffeinated stimulation?

It's now attached to about every second article now. Get rid of it PH, it's starting to get annoying.

Great vid btw.

They need to make that for the road, I'd much prefer it to the 1M as I still can't get over the noddy car looks of the old 1er coupe despite the fab blisters of the 1M....

These new turbo sixes just don't sound anywhere near as good as the m54!

Sack the editor/director of that video! Disjointed and annoying to watch...until the last, twitchy acceleration run.

Unlikely to be any more special, I imagine the concern is how much of a bloody nose the last one gave the m3.
