Right, on my 1996 Alfa Romeo GTV 2.0i I paid £400 third party fire and theft 6 months or so ago. That was with a dodgy insurance broker too. I have 6 years NCD and am 28 with a 26 year old wife who is also named on the policy.

I have saved up enough cash now for a Nissan 350Z or BMW E46 M3 and also set aside £800 for the insurance. Decided to start getting the quotes together and was amazed to see Admiral and Churchill similary offering me fully comp insurance with protected NCD for £500.

Is it just me or is that not EXTREMELY cheap??? Especially as nothing has changed in the last 6 months except I had a birthday, laugh

I expected to get mental quotes from the big players like these. Has insurance gone down for 'older' drivers or something???

I'm pretty sure the hat they pluck prices out of is massive and varied. But that's about right based on my 33 yrs, similar ncd 350Z, which comes in at three hundred and something. Don't complain! Or go see how cheap a 911 is to insure.

oddly i found this as well when i looked into a mk2 16v golf gti.

the guy at admiral said it was because although the modern cars are more to fix and more powerful, they also have much better safety features on in the 1st place so they are less likely to bang into each other.

sort of makes sense, seemed to be born out a few months later when my son went from a 70bhp 1998 fiat to a 130bhp vw gti but was 2002 and had airbags and abs etc on it. he had only got 2yrs ncd and went from 3rd party to fully comp as well.

I think £400 TPFT for an old Alfa was a bit steep tbh.

Our insurance is due at the moment, and I'm ready to argue with them to match the online prices, which they always do.

3.0 X-Type, 10k miles pa = £196

5.0 XF, 9k pa = £333

5.7 Monaro, 3k pa = £232

Happy with that wink

its gone down for men now (to be equal with women) although that was probably over 6 months ago

500 isnt that cheap, 28 with 6 years no claims that sound about right to me

i pay 310 for my 200 hp vrs and im 27 with about 4 yrs no claims. I considered the 350z a year ago or so ago and insurance quotes for me were around 500, but i do like in nice area and my wife is older

Yeah - have found the same after insuring a Corrado for many years. You can insure a lot more exciting, faster stuff for similar (or in many cases) less money.

mates son has just turned 20.

was paying £800 a year for a 1.4 pug 308 - he called for a quote on the 1.6 i think and was told £1800.

he went and bought a BMW 330i and insured it for £600 instead.

Bonkers.

My 350Z was about £300 to insure (once I had legal protection etc), the E46 M3 was about double, both with no NCD.

I don't think anyone bothers to understand why insurance quotes are as they are; they are generated by (quite complicated) statistical profiling - the demographic to which a car appeals often has far more effect on prices than any physical attribute of the car.

It costs me more than that to insure a 1.8 Mondeo TPFT. I have no adverse history and I'm 58. I'm told that it's just down to my postcode.

Sounds like a good quote to me 350Z is a bit of a beast. Thanks to the EU from January 2013 onwards car insurance for men went down a lot and for women went up a lot thanks to the EU ruling that women and men can't be discriminated against when it comes to car insurance. I love you EU. biggrin

Insurance just doesn't make any sense on the micro level.

I swapped from a 350z to a x reg Audi A4 diesel 1 month into the premium. I was refunded £6.

The best they could come up with is although it had a third of the power and was 1/12th the value was that I didn't have experience with that car.

I'm also 28.

Insurance on the Z4M was about. £800, on the TVR Chimaera it's £300!

Seems a good deal on those cars you've chosen.

They should be £1200 for the year but they work on the fact they only work 25 % of the time.
