We've got a 2008 Toyota Hilux 3 litre which has developed a fault which no one seems to be able to help with so thought it was worth a shot on here (surprised theres no Toyota sub-forum!).

It's developed an intermittent fault whereby it loses power, engine management light comes on and limp mode is engaged. Pull over, turn off engine and wait 10 secs and all is well again.

Had it into an independent garage who said there was a fault with turbo actuator but then had the turbo and ancillaries inspected by a chap from Garrett who said all was well.

Took it to a Toyota main dealer who has said because its an import they dont have the relevant software (BS?) and so can't do anything with it.

Im a bit lost with what to do now. Has anyone come across the same thing, or can anyone recommend a decent Jap specialist in the NW?

What makes you say that? Not doubting just curious.

If I go to Toyota GB will they direct me to a local dealer (the same one that told me to go whistle)?

Have you got Breakdown cover ( AA/RAC ETC) ? Few years ago I had an engine management light come on in an Astra. Vauxhall wanted £60 to read the code ,and this wouldn't be covered by my warranty . I called AA to find it was/had been a mucky plug, which had cleaned itself, after they'd read the fault code and found problem .

I have, but if a Toyota main dealer doesn't have the necessary software to diagnose is it likely the AA will?

Had a similar fault on my c class, turned out to be a small hole in the intercooler hose,

Switching the engine off resets the parameters and until I hit peak boost it was ok

It's entirely possible that, whilst the dealer's software is more thorough for each official model, the AA's is more wide-ranging.

What fault codes are being recorded.

Initial thoughts are leaking boot pipe or overboosting due to a faulty actuator.

Any guesses at a fix on here are just that, guesses.

Find a specialist with the relevant diagnostic software (use google, phone them etc)
