Lexus GS450h How much extra power?

Was considering one of these but I'm a bit confused how it works. Quotes a 3.5 v6 with 292 bhp and 271 ft/lbs plus an electric motor that makes another 197 bhp 203 ft/lbs but they quote the combined figure as 341 bhp and 271 ft lbs. Is this for the same reason they can't quote overboost power outputs on some turbo cars. Is the car actually packing 490 bhp 470 ft/lbs in short bursts? And does it run just on the electric motor and if so any idea what the range is?
