I am looking to change my Integra R DC2 over the next month or so. Whilst it is recently serviced and has a long MoT and tax, it will shortly be in need of 4 new tyres. Is this something I should do or leave to the new owner such that they can choose what they want?

The car will probably be for sale for less than £3k and a set of Yokohama AD08Rs is approximately £400 fitted. I think people wil be more attracted to a lower price than a higher price and some new boots?

Secondly, I will be purchasing a secondhand 4 door car, possibly before the Honda goes - how do you get this insured at reasonable cost when my NCB is used on other vehicles? Or is the obvious solution to wait until I sell the Honda?

Let the new owner change the tyres, they will always want money off advertised regardless of whether there are new or old tyres fitted.

Are the current tyres above the legal limit? If so I would sell the car as it is.

Cant help with the 2nd question.

As long as they're legal, leave them on.

In regards to the insurance - probably best to ask your insurer. If you are using the same provider you may be able to come to an arrangement

Leave the tyres.

Call the insurer.
Many insurance companies offer an overlap service for a week or two to allow you to do this
It may or may not cost some money depending on the insurer.

New tyres will be a nice bonus on a car at a similar price, a worn set will only be a good opportunity to get your price down, whatever it was. I would price it as a good example and expect the buyer to make a lower offer due to the tyres, just don't write it as a negative in the advert.

On the first point, leave the tyres. Ask the buyer to make sure they have a look at them when appraising the car. It is then at their discretion whether they need changing and if so, what brand they use. Tell them that the car is priced accordingly.

On the second point, contact your insurer and explain the situation. They may allow you to add the new car to your policy as a 2nd car (for a small extra payment) and then take your Honda off later. That's what happened with me in the past.

Agree with this. It cost me a about £30 to do it a few years back when I had an overlap. Got 30 days for that if I recall at which time I either needed another policy for both cars, or one of them had gone.

Thanks all, think I will measure them tonight (think they are just about legal all round) and think what to do. If I change them, I may well keep the car for a few more months and enjoy it before selling (thinking a set of AD08s would be good fun!).

Axion: This is not an advert as I really have not thought about price but as I would want a fairly painless transaction, it would be realistically priced. It is a 1999 UKDM car with 115k miles and FSH with cambelt etc done in the past few months (it has always got anything it has needed). I have had it nearly 5 years and it really has been brilliant and in many ways I am not sure I want to sell it. As I said, it is completely unabused (the previous guy had it for 11 years and like me, is reasonably mature!). Condition is very good but does have some rust on the arches like most do - I bought it like this and it has not really deteriorated.

Consequently, it is not a show car but I think of it as a useable and fun daily which has proved endlessly entertaining and totally reliable.
