As I approached my car this morning some moron has reversed into my car and damaged it. Not talking a scratch but serious damage.

Estimated parts required are wing, inner wing bracket, inner wing liner, outer wing moulding, upper bumper, grille frame, headlamp and various small fixings and brackets. Estimate done today was £1300

Car was parked on a new build estate not a main road where I have parked my cars now for seven years. As with many new builds I can only park one car on my drive so the other is a two wheels on the kerb situation to allow room for others. You will get the idea from the images below.

I know that the vehicle was a Mercedes Sprinter, new shape and it was the OSR corner that hit it. I know this because the broken parts on the tarmac had part numbers that I have been able to match.

So far I have no witness to the accident. When I last used the vehicle it was 7.30pm last night, a neighbour said she saw damage to my car when she came home after bingo at 9pm. I have reported it to the Police but don't expect anything to come of this.

So PH community what would you do or have you done in similar circumstances and what was the outcome.

Put a baseball bat in your car and brain all Merc Sprinter drivers you see for the rest of your life?

Similar thing happened to me when I had my Range Rover Sport. Came home one day to find a big dent in the front driver side fender. Some scumbag lorry had reversed straight into it and drove off. I could tell it was a lorry because of the height of the damage. Ponied up 2 and a half grand to fix it in the end.

If you contact your insurer it'll cost more in increased premiums than your quoted repair cost.

I made that mistake the 1st time it happened.

Fault claim £3500 (same deal as you, parked up overnight and whacked) on my insurance. Premium renewal went from £700 to £2k so told them to poke it, renewed with someone else for £650, full disclosure ref claim. Unless you're willing to cough from your own pocket (I wasn't, that's what insurance is for) you don't have an awful lot of choice really.

I had the same thing happen to me last winter, absolutely nothing you can do. Cost me £1000 and I'm still very very very angry about it even now.

Lucky bugger. I went from £450 to £1300 after shopping around. Original company wanted £2k as a renewal, because of a £1k claim. Overall claiming £1000 cost me north of £2000 over the next 5 years. The next couple of times I just fix it cheap and move on.

There's a fair chance it was driven by a local. Go for a walk tonight in an ever increasing circle from where it was parked and you might find it parked not too far away. What you do if you find it is up to you but it's the first step unless you don't want to do anything. I've found two hit and runners in similar circumstances. Took a while but both were found parked within half a mile of the incident.

It will be worth knocking on all your neighbours doors to see if anyone had a parcel delivered last night. A lot of companies are using drop shippers including yodel which is basically a private guy in his van earning extra money.

I'll put money on it being this especially in an estate location this close to Xmas. The supplier will have the delivery drivers details.

Good luck

The other issue is new builds and the fkwit tt retards at the fking council who figure give someone 1 Bay and that family will manage with 1 car.

Bunch of fking ignorant, short sighted, do-gooding pricks who manage to find a morsel of power, with very little thought & some common sense involved and then manage to turn it into a royal fking mess with zero accountability.

UPDATE

It's a company car so it will be sorted as my employer is motor trade, should have said. I may be asked to contribute possibly even pay although unlikely.

neighbours haven't seen anything other than what I already know. I do plan to have a walk around in a minute.

The problem is that people buy such properties. If they refused to buy houses with inadequate off street parking they'd make them differently.

True, I'm looking for a flat at the moment, anything built within the last decade and I'm reading the planning permissions to check if it's "car-free", if it is, then you can't even apply for a residents permit. That means I won't touch it frown

Most people might not be in a position to afford such a property so they don't really have the luxury of refusing to buy houses with inadequate off street parking

Also, the guilty party is a complete ahole to leave you with that damage. They might as well have poo'd on the bonnet and spray painted "merry fking Christmas" down the side of your car.

People, eh?

If you were looking for a new house and lived in an area with a fkwit coucil you'd know how it feels!!

The planning applications come across as so sanctimonious, basically stating that as there is no minimum parking requirements, they are providing none, declaring the development "car-free". The council actually FAVOUR this! Twunts.

Anywhere near by with CCTV? May hopefully show footage of a Sprinter with bits hanging off it!
