All other things being equal, are winter tyres better as runflats, i.e. with a stiffer sidewall?

I've never had runflats, my car(s) do not have them on the spec-sheet, so could anyone suggest if runflat winters would be
a) better
b) worse
c) wouldn't notice
... than non-runflat winters.

Did that make any sense?

I don't think you'd really want run-flat winters, they are usually a softer compound for various reasons so stiffening them seems silly.

Also, you wouldn't know straight away if you had a puncture - cars fitted with them from the factory have a tyre pressure monitoring system.

I see what you mean, but as you say it's the softer compound that makes the difference in grip, not the sidewall.

The compound of the rubber has little to do with the stiffness of the carcass.

Winter tyres are typically less rigid than summers and I'd guess there's a reason for that. Therefore RFT winters probably not ideal.

ETA: yeah, wot he said ^ I quoted the wrong person.

Have you seen the price of runflat winters?

If you had a free choice, the differential between those and conventional winters would probably make your decision for you...

I think run flats are better for winter tyres simply because you won't need to change wheels in the freezing cold, dark and snow/sleet.
