Unknown things you've learnt about your vehicle
Discussion
Just learnt this week my Transit pick up's engine has a turbo bolted to it, who'd have thuncked it. I always thought it was a N/A lump. Feeling a bit sheepish at not knowing this, is there a petrol head equivalent of Hail Marys I should be practicing, should I even be on this site?
Are there any revelations about any of your vehicles you've learnt along the way/down the line? Slight mitigation, it still only gets 90ps from 2.5l even with a turbo

I knew that my car had been purchased by the previous owner from Peugeot Carlisle in 1999, when it was a demo car with 2000 miles on it. What surprised me was when I posted about it on here; discovering that another PH'er had actually driven it when it was a demo car!
It had eventually suffered a fate shared by many other 106 Rallyes, being a fantastic little stripped out hot hatch just as the market was starting to turn away from that sort of thing en masse. Like many a Rallye, it ended up boxed in at the back of the showroom until it's eventual rescue.
One thing I learned about these cars is that every one has a story. Post about one online and someone will know about it from somewhere over the past twenty years! I quite like that. The cult status of the car along with the relatively small import numbers mean the histories of the remaining cars are well known for the most part.

I learnt the other day that with my Passat, if you turn the engine off and use the indicator stalk up or down will turn on a side light which I thought was pretty cool

That feature is on most cars. To my way of thinking though, it would be really clever if the left indicator turned the right side lights on (as you should be parked on the left). Now that would be cool. (And logical?)Kimbie

I found out my Mini began life as a press car after seeing photos of it up on the Parkers website and a couple of other publicity shots on the web. Quick email to Mini customer service who confirmed it for me.
So it's not true they're all crushed then after being flogged to death by journos?

I found that out that on my wife's Challenger, if you disconnect the battery (located in the "trunk") and then shut the boot, you can't get it open again.
Thanks to the internet, I then discovered that there is an emergency boot release toggle that you can access by folding down a back seat and crawling into the boot. Phew.

My Citroen LWB hiroof van (bought new in 2004, kept till warranty expired) was a pig, one day I rang the supplying dealer about it who looked on the computer...
"Oh yes, thats the one that got dropped off the crane whilst unloading a Geest"
and looking along the sills at floor level you could see where the 2 sling hooks/rails had dented each sill

I found out throw Pistonheads forum the full history on my car. Car was originally used buy the dealer principal reason my its got the 19" wheels and not the 18" as he wanted them on the car, then the car was sold to a chap on here then the same dealers ship got the car back and I bought it.
I bought the car in Bournmouth and once I found the last owner on here it turns out we are less than a 100 miles from each other.

Have you suddenly found turbo lag, boost threshold and awful throttle response now you know you have a turbo?
It does seem to suffer from low end lethargy, unfortunately this is followed by mid-range lethargy and top end lethargy, not the usual shove in the back I have heard you usually get from turbo motors. Still, great vehicles Transits.
