I am just looking at sticking some oil in my new C63 and in the handbook it recommends either 5w 40 or 0W 40 oil. I don't have either of these but sods law have quite a lot of 0w 30, 5w 30 and 10w 40. Will it make any difference if I use any of these and does anyone know which would be closest to the recommended ones? Thanks.

I'm confused. You have a car worth between £20k and £50k and you want to save £20 on oil?

The handbook will list the Mercedes oil specification that the engine requires, usually something like MB229.3 or MB229.5
If any of the oils you have meet that specification they should be OK, if they don't you'll need to go and buy the correct oil.

Indeed. One of the finest NA in the world and looking to save a few quid, very odd. Just buy the best surely?

Exactly! I'm really beginning to worry about this place and the users mindsets!

Its virtually brand new so worth even more than that smile The £20 isn't an issue it just seems a shame to have a garage full of oil that I may not be able to use. I have no idea if there is an appreciable difference between a 5w 40 and a 10W 40 or a 5W 30, so just thought I'd check. They're all fully synthetic... oh and its a lease car so it only needs to work for the next two years laugh

Specification is important too. If the oil doesn't meet the specs don't use it.

10W is too thick when cold (so your engine will die a cold death as soon as you try to start it).

30 might not keep its integrity when the oil gets hot (so your engine will die a fiery death as soon as you try to drive fast).

Get the right stuff!

Exactly! My car has a history of failures linked to the right grade of oil being used but not the brand specified by the manufacturer.
