1.4 golf???? :SSS
Discussion
Me and a couple of friends met for a gathering at a private car park near Coventry, I have a 1.4 mk4 golf and my freinds have astra coupe 1.6, bmw 316. What I cant get around my head is how my car manages to beat there's in a straight line :S The golf is bog standard, nothing done to the car what so ever yet the 1.4 picks up speed well and sit nice at 70mph. Any mechanics or people who know there stuff care to explain pleasee

You should fold the rear seats down to improve the aerodynamics. A bit of cadence clutching should really see it going like s
t off a shovel...I had the same engine in my SEAT Leon. It was not quick. But then, neither is a 1.6 Astra or BMW 316, is it? Are the 0-70 times so disparate that you'd actually notice on the road? 0-60 in the Golf is 13.5 seconds. 0-60 in an Astra of the same age is either 12 or 13.5 depending on spec. BMW 316i E46 is 12.2 or so, again spec-dependent.
So...all of them are about the same speed. Congratulations on beating your friends though.

Excuse don't take the mick out of me I didn't go to years of further education to be insulted by the likes of you I am only inquiring as I do not have the knowledge of my cars structure And seeing how this is a forum where people come to share ones thoughts on cars and share expertise. Please offer suitable advice and not immature remarks or go to a different topic
I would have though 0-60 times are pretty useful in a discussion about cars' acceleration, no? Maybe you're just a closet racing driver with far better gear-changing ability than your friends? I honestly thought the bulk of my reply was very much on-topic.
Congratulations on the many years of further education too. Is that the reason for the remarkable punctuation?

I never stated I raced my friends all I said was it was faster e.g when moving off and that comment wasn't aimed at you so calm down. I may be Asian but doesn't mean I race or use the term bruv, people stop racial stereotyping. And the topic is on vw golfs I want to know if something in the engine is tuned on the 2000 model to be precise
The reason why I started this topic was I was just shocked at the acceleration of the 1.4 golf am I allowed to mention that? And your right I did expect that, that's why I am emphasising it this time. My previous car a Mazda3 takra went like stink but acceleration was not as good as the golf

Would love to have seen that drag race. Would have been epic.

good threadIlovecorners- if you aren't racing, how do you know? how have you been measuring the car's performances? does your car simply 'feel' faster?
Either your car is faster than theirs, you are trying harder than them or you are simply a faster driver

It's help to know the years of your mate's cars, I'm imagining mkV Astra and E36 BMW? Because BMW have been making a 316 and vauxhall has been making a 1.6 astra for the last 40 years or so...
