You guys ever done anything embarrassing at the petrol station?

The one I went to today was very busy so I decided to queue in a line that had the pump on the other side of the car as there were less cars. I parked the car up got out, looked at the gap between my car and the pump and it must have been about two foot (I was sure I was much closer then that when I was sat down).

The pump just about reached my petrol cap. Close call, I would have looked a right tit if I had to re-maneuver the car again.

Better being too far away from the pump than too close.

One day I swung into the petrol station in a works van, clipped the nozzle and pulled the hose 100 yards up the road behind me lol.

Got in the wrong side of a Porsche 928, in fairness mine was LHD and the one I was delivering abroad was RHD. I came out of the shop, jumped in and found I had no steering wheel.

I drive four different vehicles, only my Focus has the filler cap on the right.

I frequently drive to the wrong side and then have to move.

First time in an Elise I had to go and get petrol. Being built for comfort rather than speed I was fine getting in but could I get out at the petrol station... Could I 'eck. I had to give up, drive to the Tesco car park, slide out on all fours and then take the roof off before returning to the pump.

Putting 30 litres in rather than £30 and having to dash to the cashpoint.

I once dropped my copy of razzle on the floor as I was getting back into my car.

Left the key in the ignition of my Picanto and locked the door as I got out...... No remote locking so was in the habit of just pushing down the door pin!

Had to leave it blocking a pump for half an hour while a very helpful member of staff drove me the 3 miles home - outcome would've been a lot worse if I was at the other end of the country!

Hired a few cars and it's always worth asking how to open the fuel cap as you can look a right berk trying to work it out for the first time at the pump.

Our camper has the fuel filler cap near the front on the nearside.
Our BMW has the fuel filler cap on the offside near the back.

The amount of times I drive to the wrong side AND to far forwards or backwards is just silly.

We'll have our first petrol car for a while (replacing the 335d) in January and I'm properly worried I will try and stick diesel in it!

I remember you posting this one on a similar thread I had about getting used to a new car - visualising it does make me laugh Mark. I imagine you nodding that yes, your wallet is indeed in the glovebox and having confirmed this it's now time to get out whilst avoiding eye contact with anybody and switch seats ready to drive away (in a bit of a hurry) hehe

Had a daily driver Mondeo once, pulled up at one pump on the wrong side but since the station was empty I didn't bother to use it and stretch the pump round but moved to another pump that was also on the wrong side as before...............doh. 3rd time lucky.

Never lend anyone an s2000 without telling them where the fuel cap release lever is. They will NEVER find it on their own

Years ago I followed my brother into a petrol station and waited while he filled up.
He went off to pay and having done so followed a good looking girl out of the shop.
He considered her so good looking that on his way back to his car he was tracking her every movement.
She reached her car - he reached his.
Their eyes met across the forecourt.
She opened her drivers door and got into her car - he got into his.
She started her car - he got out of his car - closed the passenger door and made the rather embarrassing walk round the front of his car to get in the drivers side.
She was laughing, I was pissing myself and he sped off.

My mates mrs wrong fuelled his 330d a few years back, realised her mistake before she left the petrol station, but thought it "for the best" to get the car home.... £9k later, new engine fitted.

My old Bmw decided to attack me. Pulled up at a Shell Garage, started to get out the car, go to put my feet on the ground and realise something had caught my left leg. Unable to put my left foot on the ground and rapidly losing my sense of balance, I realise the loose bit of trim underneath the door had caught on my tracksuit bottoms (don't ask), I vainly scramble to hold onto the door before I fall flat on my arse. My left leg still suspended in the air.

Thank fk the woman behind the counter was the only one around.

Oh several of these, picking up Mrs TR7V8s Eunos from the car sales place, needless to say running on fumes. Stopped for fuel & then the two of us spent 10 minutes looking for the cap release. Ended up phoning the garage where it had come from & they told us.

A few years ago hired a large car trailer to pick my Westfield up on, drove into a petrol station, some how misjudged it & clipped a pump with the rear light on the trailer. The pump cover dismantled itself into a hundred pieces. Went in after filling up & the attendant was jumping up & down with the accident book in his hand. Just filled it out & told him to calm down. Reported it to my Ins Co & they dealt with it.
