If anyone hasnt noticed section 5 of SORN has been deleted. This is the one that says if your car is untaxed and you havent declared SORN within the last 12 months you have to do it now or Tax it.
i.e. you no longer need to SORN your project every 12 months

CIE says if your car is uninsured, to avoid a fine you need to keep it off road and make a SORN in the manner of section 5.

Have they changed CIE or has a huge chasm developed?

M2pW

You make the same SORN for Insurance or Tax or both - when either tax or insurance or both has expired

It's just valid for any length of period triggered till the car is retaxed (it can be insured or uninsured for the whole period)

The only difference is that SORNs don't expire any more, so the "in the last 12mo" bit doesn't apply any more.

It's the other way around
A SORN doesn't have to be redeclared every 12 months.
That's fine for tax
But if that's the section you used to use to let them know you're keeping it off road for no insurance
- what do you use now? Have they changed the law so you can use one of the reasons?

Yes, that's what I said.

Either. Both. Neither. A SORN is a SORN is a SORN. You SORN it once, it stays SORNed until you next tax it. No matter why you SORNed it.
