Could insurers start spying on all of us
Discussion
So we know insurers have been trying out all sorts of black boxes to spy on drivers who opt into a scheme
councils are already starting to buy up rather more sophisticated anpr cameras capable of picking up various types of driving offences automatically
how long till these camera manufacturers start pushing these systems into the hands of insurers so they can secretly judge our driving ? how legal would this sort of thing be, and if it were in anyway illegal, how could anyone prove it was going on?
what happens when someone's GT86 gets taken on a 250 joy ride by a mechanic and is observed, speeding, tailgating, running red lights etc.
If these were observed by traffic cameras there would be the chance to contest the tickets and say i was not the driver at the time, but if the incidents were simply logged on a secret insurance industry database, the first and only thing you would know about it would be an unusually high increase in your insurance premiums

Absolute genius and I've been foiled again by those pesky kids. I have around 10,000 staff sitting in a top secret bunker at 32 Longwirh Ave, Tunbridge Wells. Their job is to observe everyone at all times and then add them to our mega database so that we can charge them an extra £14 on their premium.
It's hugely profitable spending millions for the extra few thousand generated in premium income.

All of our company cars have just been fitted with trackers for insurance renewal (100k cheaper !)
The info they record is remarkable. So much so, we have taken one drivers van off of him and told him to sort his own transport.
There is concern about the legal implications if we knowingly let him drive our vehicle after being provided with his data.
A lot are up in arms about it, me? i'll stick with the car allowance !
I suspect it will come to all cars eventually, and we'll all be driving about like snails.

I'd imagine you'd simply provide proof of the car being in for a service..councils are already starting to buy up rather more sophisticated anpr cameras capable of picking up various types of driving offences automatically

I guess the plan is to have all cars fitted with gps that does not allow speeding, as it will only go to the max speed of that road, it will maintain a speed that it thinks sensible for the road based on some arbitrary factor, such as the weather, amount of traffic etc. Then after a few years the same people who think the above is a god idea, will be asking why there is more congestion, and road deaths have not dropped significantly etc as every one will drive to the max speed possible without really thinking about (well probably less than a lot do already when) driving.
Either fully automate cars (not a good idea in my eyes) or spend money on continuous driver education, ie a suitability to drive test every 5 years that can fail.
