Can the rust on Puma rear arches ever be cured? All the ones I've seen have knackered rear arches, but what is the cure?

How do body shops etc treat rust - by cutting it out?

I'm a novice to bodywork!

Realistically the only way to win would be having the arches stripped back to metal, treated and replaced with new and then having an incredible amount of protection added.

Very expensive indeed, so not worth it on anything short of an FRP.

Yes it can be cured but only by cutting out the rot and welding on new metal. I was quoted £600 minimum to have this work done on my old Puma and most of the body shops I went to wouldn’t touch it.

If you paint K Rust or Hammerite or similar and the rust stops, is it compromised structurally? Or is it just a cosmetic issue?
I wouldn't mind running one that looked a shed as long as it was safe and would pass an MOT.

You cant buy arch repair panels so officially its either fabricate or fit a new quarter, non cheap

The puma forums have found out that the front arches off a 206 are virtually the same shape and can be manipulated and made to fit to weld on as a "DIY" arch repair kit.

Had mine fixed last year, wasn't cheap but the body shop say the rear arches should outlast most of the original metal.

Arch repair panels are available from these guys:

I bought a pair a few years ago and the cost was iirc about £130 delivered but body shops were still wanting £300 a side to carry out the work.
