Can DPFs be retrofitted ?
Discussion
No I haven't gone mad, just thinking ahead.
For work I'm using a euro 4 06 plate VW caddy van.
On the rare occasions I am asked to go into that stupid green zone in the poxy smoke, euro 4 is ok at the moment, but I doubt it will be for long, once euro 6 comes out.
Would it be easy to make my van conform to euro 5 ?

Seem to recollect when it was announced there was a retrofit option for older vehicles. For work I'm using a euro 4 06 plate VW caddy van.

Euro 5 though i wouldn't think so. If your van is 7 years old would think a newer van may be cheaper?

I only bought it this year, I'll run it for another 5 I guess.Euro 5 though i wouldn't think so. If your van is 7 years old would think a newer van may be cheaper?
I don't have enough calls there to justify much of an outlay, most of my customers have already left the area.
It was just something I thought of because I was down at Dartford yesterday, at one of the factories that moved because of the congestion zone, although he stayed just the wrong side of the M25, poor sod had to change his lorry/van etc a couple of years back.
Boris may surprise us and not worry about the euro 4's, but I expect somebody will want them banned soon.

And it might be worth changing before the market is flooded with non-LEZ compliant vans.
For the two or three jobs a year I'd lose (or they'd have to pay for a hire vehicle), it just isn't worth the outlay.I could insure my year 2000 BMW for work again, and take that, but again, not enough work to justify the cost.
Not a very "green" policy to be honest, trying to scrap perfectly working vehicles, but thank you for the thought.

Yes, but at least it is something that affects local air quality rather than the CO2 nonsense. I looked into it when I had a T4 and making a euro 3 vehicle euro 4 compliant was about £2k, I can't imagine it's got cheaper.
I wasn't thinking of spending as much as 2K to be honest, it was just a thought. It is also worth bearing in mind that it would probably cost me 10 - 15K to buy a new van, and that isn't going to happen.
