If a car has been remapped for increased BHP, torque and MPG, is the resale value affected either up or down?

What car is it? What percentage increase is claimed from the map?

Some cars take to it better than others, so it could be either way imo.

I don't know about anyone else, but I tend to stay away from remapped cars.

In my experience, remapped usually means 'wragged with in an inch of it's life'

Not that I'm saying you have don't this. Just saying what me and I'm sure a fair percentage of the car buying public feel

So to answer, I think it would bring the value down and noticeable amount

I'd say the biggest effect is that you have a smaller market place i.e. a certain proportion of buyers won't be interested in a car that's been remapped.

Value is going to depend on what car it is. Some cars have a bigger modified scene than others.

The cost of most remaps isn't usually much compared to the price of the car so normally won't add much to the price from what I've seen, then if a mapped car drives better you might have more chance of a sale.

My Ibiza FR. Probably going for trade in but wondering if I can use it to haggle!

You wont get more money for a car when trading it in if its remapped, opposite is more likely the case.

I'd keep quiet about it whether trading it or selling it privately.

I would say down in 99% of cases. Anything non-standard generally (I said generally, not always) does, and remapping I would have thought would have a mostly negative effect. Why do most people remap? It isn't first and foremost for economy.

So many factors, the buyer, the car, the remap.

not all remaps are created equal, a factory approved remap like a Mountune one will probably enhance but a 130 VAG engine car, with the boost cranked up to the clutch slipping, head gasket popping max will put people off.

It's either no difference, or makes it worth less.

It is pretty common not to mention a remap, so it doesn't sound like it has been fiddled with, but goes like a rocket on a test drive.

Remap will not add value to any car.

It will put most people off buying a car that is known to be remapped.

Keep quiet would be best unless specifically asked if it has been remapped.

I had a bad time trying to sell my Skoda Octavia 1.8T remapped from 150 to 215bhp.

It put everyone off and hence it has put me off doing it again.

Although if you trade it in or sell it I think you should declare it.

Imagine if someone's insurance was invalidated because of it.

Keep quiet about it if you're happy with the idea that others will do the same to you about other things, in other situations where you have no experience or expertise.

Or act like a man, be honest and teach your kids to do the same.

If I were selling, I'd acknowledge it in the ad, try my best to sound intelligent, diligent and genuine and wait for the right buyer. I'd rather buy a remapped car from someone who sounded like a bright, decent sort of bloke than a standard car from a pillock.

It didn't bother me when I bought an 8L S3 that it had a Revo remap, it drove much better than the standard ones I tried. However I did find insuring it a challenge, a lot of the mainstream insurers just didn't want to insure it and the ones who would wanted a hefty sum to cover it.
