Peugeot 107 - surprisingly good
Discussion
Had to pick up a courtesy car on Thursday and went deliberately for the lowest spec thing they had a 13 plate Peugeot 107
In these days of being obsessed with stupid amounts of power and electric everything I wanted to get a reality check for a few days
Travelled up from Huckstead to Shropshire and ground it a really capable little car, would sit happily at the national speed limit, no undue noise or harshness
The engine is a peach with a lovely three pot warble, revs like crazy and can reach an indicated 60 in second gear
Handling is hilarious, little grip but you can feel the limit being approached and drive up to them in complete safety
Perhaps all petrol heads should go back to basics once in a while, appreciate what I normally drive far more but also found respect for a cheap little runaround

I drove a hired one from Preston to Swansea and was very impressed - refined, quick enough, characterful engine note and predictable handling - my only complaint was the under-padded driver's seat - however it was much better than the base model Corsas I've previously been paying more to hire. Nice to know that all the kids driving round in these are driving something that's fun and not just an appliance.
I drove an Aygo for the first time a couple of days ago.
It is a fun car and no doubt cheap to run but it is hair shirt motoring - everything feels cheap.
Stepping out of a 20k mile Aygo into a 70k mile Suzuki Swift the Swift felt like a luxury car in all aspects.
I'd be very happy with an Aygo for 5k miles a year but if you are sat in it for more than an hour a day I think it would soon start to grate.

We have a C1 as a runabout, great little car, it is good at what it does but wouldnt want to do huge mileage in it, that isnt what they are built for really.
Ours is a 5 door with air con which makes life easier.
Pros,
Space, loads for what it is, seats four in relative comfort.
Economy, 40 - 50 mpg all the time
Handling is ok
Cheap to tax and insure
Characterful engine and not totally gutless
Cons
Huge A pillars limit visibility
Seats not that comfy
Gearing is bizarre
Boot a bit small (well, what would you expect)
Built to a price, but that is part of its charm, like a 2CV or Mini but not as painful

I think even little things like not having metal showing on the doors does a lot for improving the feel of a car. It is a fun car and no doubt cheap to run but it is hair shirt motoring - everything feels cheap.

I have a C1 and I hate it. Steering is too light, with little feedback. Gearing is all to cock. Has a very long 1st and 2nd (reaches 65 in 2nd) but 3rd, 4th and 5th have about 200-250RPM difference!
The two front seats have no "memory", you tilt it forward to let someone in the back and it returns to a bolt upright position! Gearbox feels dreadful too.
But it costs peanuts to run, has good brakes and will sit comfortably at motorway speeds.

I must be missing something - I've driven a 107 a few times (and the Citroen C1 once), and couldn't think of a single positive attribute of either car. Yes, the short wheelbase makes them quite nimble, but that's about it!
Kind of agree - hard seats, funny noise. Wouldn't buy a new or newish one. Oddly the Aygo feels better than the 107 or C1 - but I just can't work out why.3-cylinder cars vary a lot.
