Alternatives to a 911?
Discussion
I'm wanting to change my car. I currently drive a Mini JCW but it doesn't really do much for me having spent the last 3 years in MX5's. Ideally I want another turbocharged MX5 - a bit different, fast, exciting to drive, special every time you get in, looks good and can handle the odd trackday. However, I have to have 4 seats and that's just not negotiable.
I don't want a coupe version of another car, a hot hatch or hot saloon, as I want something that stands out and feels special. So that rules out things like 3 series, Merc Coupes, and A5's. I've already owned a TT and don't really fancy another. Something like a 350Z would be ideal if it had a couple of extra seats. The power delivery and reliability of an RX8 put me off that.
With an absolute maximum budget of £20,000 (preferably a lot lower) I'm struggling to think of anything other than a 911. £20k would get me a nice 2005 manual Carrera.
Any suggestions?

Why not split your budget and opt for something like a BMW320D and a Caterham for the special and track days. Porsche will feel special for a very limited period and soon become the same as any other car, where as the Caterham retains that special, special feeling every time you drive it.
Porsche is hard to better as an all-round sports car that can be used every day for commuting, doing the shopping, spirited blasts through twisty roads and feel special.
That said, if you have another car for general A to B then the Porsche would feel even more special as it wouldn't be used as much. That's what I've just done - got an old X-Trail as my daily driver and the 911 now sits in the garage looking fantastic and awaiting my need for speed and sense of occasion.

I know lots of people do this, but it just doesn't appeal to me. I'd rather drive a nice car all the time rather than spend 90% of my time in a boggo car and have to find time to drive the fun car. With 2 young kids I'd still need to use the 4 seater at weekends for trips to swimming, football, hockey etc etc.slipstream 1985 said:

Do Corvette and Noble make a 4 seater?
I've got to admit the 4dr M3 is quite tempting as it's a bit more unusual than the Coupe, but it still doesn't look special enough for me.
sometimes you have to compromise on the things you want!I've got to admit the 4dr M3 is quite tempting as it's a bit more unusual than the Coupe, but it still doesn't look special enough for me.
Hmm...Mustang.
