I can't remember thre precise number but I have never seen the format before.

Four digits then two letters.

1234AB

The car was a RHD new looking Land Ctuiser. The plates were standard British white and yellow, no other markings, or blue strips EU flags and the like. The font and spacing was standards.

I thought it may haveen Jersey or somewhere but the plates were marked from my local Toyota dealer, the car had their window sticker too.

If the letters were MN then it could be Manx between 85 and 87.

It's a legit issued format, although I'm not sure the precise dates:

edit: Probably sometime between 1953 and 1965

If the letters were AY it could be the Channel Island of Alderney which can have up to 4 numbers before the letters AY

My Dad had a number of second hand buses and coaches in the early 1970s that were 80xxTE - they all came from Lancashire.

If the second letter was a Z then it's an old Northern Ireland number.

Cheers for that. I guess it must be an old British plate.

I've seen one today that was four digits and the letters IW. Considering the I, I'm guessing it must have been Northern Irish originally.
