Hundreds of miles away from home, and have a lot to do before Christmas... and I've just ripped a fking big hole in a tyre. It's a Michelin Alpin and will be hard to match at short notice as it's a stupid size.

My question is.. can I put another brand of winter on? Obviously it's not wise to mix winter and summer but if I put a decent winter tyre it'd be OK?

Or, does anybody in Yorkshire have a Michelin Alpin in 214/45/16 in stock/for sale?

Cheers

Of course you can, even if you can only get hold of a summer tyre it wouldn't be ideal but you should be fine.

I'd probably try phoning a few small tyre shops before giving up.

My local small tyre shop uses something like 5 different suppliers, has several deliveries a day and can get almost anything for the afternoon if you ring him in the morning.

He is particularly good though. In SE London so of no use to you. But if you can find someone like him where you are then you might get lucky.

The other option is to try National: http://www.national.co.uk

They sell your tyre and you can complete the transaction on the website. Good chance you'd be able to sort it out tomorrow. I wouldn't normally recommend a national chain, but in this case it might get you out of a hole.

Any chance you can afford 2 alternative sized tyres? (and sell your old one)

I'd pay whatever I needed to to sort this, it's come at a very bad time. Is it possible to fit other sizes to these wheels? And yes, sorry, it is 215/45/16. Absolutely ridiculous fking size, nobody stocks anything. Getting summers is a massive pain in the arse.

Thanks for the advice so far

www.event-tyres.co.uk are showing your size in the michelin but I don't know your postcode. Probably worth calling them direct as they've always been very helpful with me, and the online booking won't allow you to book tomorrow (probably)

Are you or do you know a CostCo member - they stock Michelin all the time, and had a whole pile of Alpins in a few weeks ago...

Just outside Leeds.

Another brand of winter will be a lot better than a space saver, and people do that all the time. Obviously not quite ideal but it won't make your car explode by any means, especially if you aren't intending to drive on a frozen lake. wink

i dont know which side of leeds you are but I know a good tyre place but they wont be open until tomorrow, they are called tyremarket,
142 Leeds Rd, Heckmondwike, West Yorkshire WF16 9DQ
01924 402615.

if nothing else they should be able to get you something round that holds air to get you home.

Camskill are showing Pirelli (only 86 load, rather than 90 for the Mich - is this an issue?) in "2-day" stock - which usually means the importer's UK warehouse, so should be orderable by any tyre place. Michs are "no date" - so out of stock in the country, probably out of stock in the main European warehouse chain. They're the only two brands they've got listed.

Any luck with Event?

They were showing fitting slots tomorrow when I tried a few minutes ago with a sample postcode from earlier in the thread.

I can recommend somewhere to mend it, if possible, in Rovrum. If you have cord damage then nothing can save it unfortunately, but if the carcass is undamaged then theyll be able to repair it properly.

Itll need an overnight in autoclave though, which may not be practical.
