thinking of changing from the jag, as I have had it 5 years now and it was 6 years old on Saturday 21st December.

So how much would this ruin my bank account ?

http://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/l...

Any majors to look out for ?
Anything I need to check BIG time before I part with any cash

thanks

I like a lot. Friend of mine has a cheap high mileage Td6, think it has only needed a couple of front suspension airbag things.

Remember its a 60K vehicle when new so will have appropriate running costs

Things to check
Gearbox - all gears go home smooth
Mirrors fold in and out.
Air susp goes into low, normal, high.
Check its running smooth.
Check hi/lo gearbox works.
Check for leaks from sunroof
Heated seats all round and wheel should heat up quickly.
AC should be freezing cold.
Check breather pipes at rear of block are in good condition.
Check for water ingress in headlamps.
Check is got a proper LR battery and the proper battery cut off system is still in place.
All books and keys.
Check CD changer works and will change between discs.
Check spare wheel well is not full of water! There is a bung in the spare wheel well this should be in place.
Check electric seats go in all directions and electric windows work.
Mirrors should be heated, and if auto dimming make sure glass has not been replaced with non auto dim glass (£50 vs £500).
Check coil packs are all the same and genuine BMW parts (if petrol).
Check WABCO air cyl (under OS sill) is free from dents / dings etc.
Check headlamp wipers work.
Check front and rear parking sensors work.

List is not mine its taken from another forum

9.2 to 60 isn't bad for 3 tonnes of diesel range rover.

If I remember correctly, that example has been for sale for nigh on two months. I sourced a V8 L322 for a colleague very recently and for ten large it really feels rather special.

Its a big old boat, but makes a lovely noise, well worth the 15 mpg.

But as a "waft mobile " wouldn't you want to go a bit?
That is glacially slow.
Does look lovely though
i have toys for go
slow is fine
once loaded with kids, kit, dog and stuff i dont want any of it moving or stomach contents coming back so slow is fine

I run an 03 Rangerover Vogue and I'm a student, so It's doable. I had mine converted to LPG though and do most of the spannering myself so that helps

I've fancied one for a while, but friends in the trade say they all bite, hard. It's just a matter of when. On that vintage, it's usually the gearbox that steals all your money apparently.

Also view it as one of the worst motoring investments you'll make in terms of return. In three years time you'll struggle to give that petrol beast away.

Had one for a year'ish till a couple of months ago, main thing is the g/box,although nowhere near as frail as the diesel version check it thoroughly on a good run,has box oil been changed? The bottom few rows of the main rad cool the box in effect so check in good order. Also check and re check every single electrical gadget! They are fine vehicles and nowhere near as bad as some make out.Really nice to drive and a great place to sit.Oh,mine needed nowt in my ownership.
I don't think you'll be disappointed.

That one is like a 3 series dressed up like an M3. It's got a chav approximation of a supercharged grill, supercharged side grills, rear lights and wheels.

Generally I would avoid anything with supercharged "upgrades" or gypsy chrome tat stuck on it.

Also, there are performance figures on this thread that relate to the td6. That is a 4.4 petrol.

12mpg is going to hurt.

Think it's lovely though.

4.4V8 petrol is 9.2 as quoted so not bad for a car of its weight, avoid the TD6 though if you want to make any kind of progress.

Go for it. I ran a 2002 V8 for a year. 150k on the clock, £6.5k purchase price, no history, 2 new front airbags and a lambda needed in the year.
