Hi guys

I've the need for a shed and thought I'd visit an auction - one of the local ones being a Manheim.

Said shed would be < £1000 really (qualifying Shed criteria)

Using auctions in the past, the buyers premium is normally about £50 or so.

The Manheim site has some info on the premium but says...

" Buyer’s Premium — the fee payable depends on the value of the vehicle. Example rates for cars are shown below:

Vehicle Hammer Price Discounted Private Buyer’s Premium Standard Private Buyer’s Premium
£1,000 - £1,499 ........................£268.00........................£316.00
£2,000 - £2,499 ........................£316.00........................£364.00
£3,000 - £3,499 ........................£348.00........................£396.00
£5,000 - £5,499 ........................£387.00........................£435.00
£10,000 - £10,499 ......................£472.00........................£520.00

"

Excuse me whilst I st the bed a moment, but am I reading it correctly? 30% of the sale price is a fee (for £1000 car)?

Does anyone know what happens with Sheds, as surely the BP would "write off" any car's potential auction value??

Stick to eBay, I contemplated something similar to you a few months ago whilst looking for an economical stter, the fees at some of the auctions were extortionate, plus you can browse eBay in your underwear, which is always nice.

You can go to the Auction in your underwear if you want.
Nobody's going to point at you cos they might just buy a car by accident hehe
Ebay, Gumtree etc at this end of the market.

Been looking everywhere, just had a look at their stock and they had some clean looking old p/x cars (that normally you'd expect to go under the hammer at £200 or so).

Makes me wonder why they'd bother sending them through?

Neither Bca or Manheim are worth it for private punters, unless (in the case of Bca) you know someone with gold or higher membership...

That's a bit crap

I'll have to find somewhere else to make an inevitably poor car decision then frown

What's the benefit of that membership?

As has already been said, for private buys, BCA doesn't make a great deal of sense and at the lower end of the price range, you'd be better off with ebay/gumtree.

I believe that the Gold card buyers fees are in the region of half or less than what a private punter would pay...

From their website:

MyBCA Gold Card Benefits

(12-99 vehicles per annum)

Business buyers fee
Complimentary access to BCA website
Access to Live Online, Bid Now & Buy Now and e-Auction
Online payment systems
Free commission bids
Pick up and drop off for buyers
Annual card administration fee waived
Free catalogues
Exclusive offers on delivery

high prices because they are selling the cars for nothing for the vendors, and picking them up too
