Woke up to find my wife's car under with 12" of water in it as the roads have flooded due to pumping station failing. Insurance company have just picked the car up.

If its repairable will it be problematic going forwards?

Cheers and Merry Xmas.

Water damage inside a car is heading towards a write off as it can be very difficult to dry them out and clean them up well enough to garuntee there won't be issues down the line such as electronic components failing.

Every car I've known to be flooded has been written off. Unless it's something as rare as hen's teeth...?

Start researching accurate market values just in case.

If it's made its way into the interior I'd probably push to get it written off. Otherwise I wouldn't be overly worried if it got sent back to you.

It'll probably be alright if once it's dried out and all fluids changed (to be safe) if it's just been stationary, everything still works straight away and it was 'clean' water (i.e. not full of silty crap).

Unless the water got into the electronics for the seatbelt tensioners, or into an control circuitry that manufacturers love sticking under the passenger seat.

Thanks all

The car is an 06 Civic. Not sure if anything electrical got submerged, but the exhausts were well under water.

We'll wait and see what the ins company says.

I drove one into flood water once, because I'm a tt, it wasn't very old, but was written off.

I know the chap who bought it as salvage, it had to have a replacement engine, as I'd shagged that, he took his time cleaning it all up, and used it as the family run around for at least ten years, no issues.
